Never has a player had me on the edge of my seat more. The first year was so fun, every time he touched the puck you could feel the crowd buzzing. It was a privilege to watch his career. Such a talent. Great family. RIP.

Will always remember Jane Gaudreau's tweet of pride about Johnny wear the A that playoff game

Investigators said Sean Higgins smelled of alcohol and admitted having five or six beers before the accident in Salem County's Oldsman Township Thursday evening, the complaint says. Higgins also allegedly said he was physically engaging in the act of drinking while driving. He said he was trying to get around two cars on County Route 551.
One of the two vehicles moved to the other lane to avoid hitting Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who had been biking on a narrow shoulder. Higgins remained where he was and hit both with his Jeep, the complaint says. Witnesses reported the impact happening at a high rate of speed.
In fact, take the decision out of your hands altogether before you have that first drink. Alcohol impairs your judgement. You cannot trust yourself to do the right thing when impaired. Even if drunk you has made the correct decision 100 times before, one time drunk you will make the wrong decision and it can have catastrophic results.
Probable that he moved to the right even. From the Columbus dispatch
Quote:
Higgins drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on a county road when he pulled behind a sedan and SUV. He tried to pass the slower-moving sedan and SUV before entering the road's southbound lanes.
The SUV in front of Higgins moved to the middle of the road, splitting the north and south lanes, to pass the Gaudreau brothers traveling north on their bikes.
Higgins tried to pass the SUV on the right and struck the two bicyclists in the rear, the highway patrol said. The brothers suffered fatal injuries.

In what has been an incredibly crushing and difficult month for me personally, this has hit me hard even more.
My takeaway truly is to value the time we have, hug those we love and never go a day wasted in anger. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Johnny was my favorite Flame besides Iggy and to even think about the pain his family is going through almost physically hurts.
Sorry to hear that, and well said.
It was a difficult summer for me too in that way. Coming out of it with less loved ones than went into it with.
I didn't come to CP for a while as hockey became an after thought.
These things serve to remind us what's important and what isn't at the end of the day. When people leave it makes me want to live more fully for them (when the hurt is no longer so fresh) and remember that it's a gift to be here, no matter what we can nitpick about our situation. Many people are no longer here to experience it. We still get to.
We don't know when the last hello/goodbye will be with loved ones, so be present with them and leave the grievances behind.

If he admitted to 5 or 6, he probably had around 10. Not only driving drunk but also speeding and driving recklessly, blindly swerving around other vehicles at high speeds. Throw the book at him.
Holy ####, literally drinking while driving.

I just want to wake up and this not be real.

Unbelievable. Obviously even just losing Johnny is terrible, but the entire situation around it with Matt as well and happening just prior to his sister's wedding is absolutely horrific.
That poor family.

People understand that the media can’t make any judgements about the nature of a fatal incident that hasn’t gone to trial and where nobody has been charged yet, right? If they ran the headlines people seem to want them to run, they’d open themselves up to libel.
Bull####. You can write a much more accurate headline that does not flirt with any defamation:
Father and Uncle to two young children struck and killed by motor vehicle

Guys on the fan 960 are struggling. Tough day for all Calgary hockey fans and people involved with the team. Probably one of the darkest days surrounding the team I can remember, such a tragedy.
I don't blame anyone one bit for being emotional today, even the fans. Not like we knew the guy but we followed and watched him for many years and you get attached to the players.
Just a brutal tough day.
We all feel like we knew Johnny. We watched him develop as an NHL star. All the stories from Connie going to the Gaudreau home to sign Johnny and assure his parents he would be looked after in Calgary. Seeing his first goal, his year with the "find-a-way" flames, his special plays and fast feet. The whole City adopted Johnny and his parents and siblings and Uncle! We saw his talent blossom in front of us, we saw Hudler help develop Johnny and Monny that first full season. And then the exciting but too brief, playoff series runs with a win against Vancouver, and then most recently beating Dallas. We felt sad when he left Calgary, but we still loved Johnny. So now we all have a hole inside us from a true loss, that can can only be partially filled with the good memories that Johnny created and left behind for us.
