Yeah agree with you guys proud of the performance. They played good courageous possession based attacking football just a little weak at cb and finishing but gotta remember that is the best team in the world that have been in almost every major final in recent history

Yup, just don’t have quite the finish and can’t afford to make a single mistake. No shame in this, now go win this weekend.

Courageous, or naive?

If Canada had a proper manager like Mourinho or Trapattoni, we'd be able to achieve so much more. Sure, going up against the world champions is tough. I'd give even the best manager, with a fully healthy squad and the best possible tactics, about a 10% chance of beating Argentina.

The way Jesse Marsch sent these guys out to play tonight was downright criminal. He gave them a 0% chance of success. Argentina have better players at all but one position, along with a far better bench. Trying to take them on toe to toe might be exciting to watch, but it will NEVER work against such a talented team.

Morocco bored the crap out of me in every match in the World Cup, but guess what? They put ten men behind the ball and would up in the semi-finals. They had their tactics right, worked hard as a unit, and achieved greater success as a team than the individual strengths of their players would suggest. Canada needs a manager that can do that. This group of players is capable of so much more.

Canada also made the semi's of Copa. What's your point? The World Cup is the bigger tournament, but to not give Marsch credit for getting Canada this far is ignorant.

Getting Canada this far? His team scored once in the group stage, and won a penalty shoot out to get to the semi-finals.

Yep. And it was really fun. You should try cheering for them one day.

When Dundee United go to Ibrox this season, would you cheer them for having a proper go at Rangers and trying to get stuck in? Or would you advise them to put ten men behind the ball and try their best to eek out a scoreless draw?

Well come on now. I won’t be able to argue with you if you start using logic!

The game has been over for an hour and a certain poster hasn't mentioned their winning $100K bet against Canada once. Too busy counting the profits, I guess.

Amazing for Canada to get this far, especially the I do t know if we saw them at their best all tournament. It's a big ask but if we can find a striker and a centre back (preferably 2 of each), we could really be a solid team for the next 6 to 8 years. I think the World Cup will be a bridge too far for this current group to do much damage, but I think getting out of the group should be minimum expectations.

Super proud of the boys, what a game. Certain posters in this thread are being waayyyyy overly dramatic - we played a majority possession game against Argentina? Lost only 2-0? That's a hell yeah from me. Played against the best team in the world, and held our own - we should hold our heads high. We made the goddamn semi-finals of Copa America.

We are in a golden age of Canadian footie, and I'm 100% here for it.

That’s “eke out,” you ineffable moron. It’s quite the accomplishment to misspell a word with three letters.

Going toe to toe? Did you not notice that we didn’t high press literally at all? We stayed central, and had the three up front trying to block lanes and keep them to the outside. We didn’t try to go toe to toe, and I thought tactically we looked pretty good.

If we had a striker that could finish (or even make smart runs), that game could have been a draw. If I were any of those clubs rumoured to be looking at David, I would not be looking at him anymore after this tournament. He was shocking.

You're right, I'm sorry. That really is quite the accomplishment.

Headed to the bank tomorrow to deposit my 18% earnings on two hours of football.

I'm buying a Kone jersey tonight.

That was one of the best sports things I've seen since the Flames beat the piss out of the Canucks in 2014.

No no. I want him to know exactly how little he knows about football. Not a good fan, and clearly never played at any level himself. Bad combination.

Didn't see anything except the first 20 mins. Had some half chances to start too, good down the wing again, and really needed one of those.

All the quotes from players and Marsch I've seen, seem to think this is the end. There's a couple million $ in bonus money up for grabs to finish 3rd instead of 4th, and for this program that's hardly insignificant, nevermind the experience of playing another top team and chance to be medaling at a Copa America.

This chance to finish top 3 may not happen again for a while.
