Hockey is so funny.
We have been told being physical in the playoffs no longer matters, need speed and finesse.
Now according to the media, Toronto is being owned physically by Florida, Sam, Chucky etc and cannot come close to matching them physically.
Could be Dallas v Florida, big physical teams.
Maybe Darryl knows something after all

Last season the story was, if they didn't get out of the first round, the season was a failure. They didn't get out of the first round and still spun it into a success because they played better.
I'm sure whoever is running the team in the fall will be convinced that because they made it out of the first round for the first time in 19 years, that they're making progress.

Dinner can be served. The Leafs are getting raked to the compost pile for decomposition!

Most of the Leafs problems can be boiled down to when they signed Tavares a very large contract

Probably need both.
Those guys are physical but also highly skilled. A rare combo, tough to get players like that.

I think you're going to be surprised.
Tre walked into a huge mess, a bunch of bad contracts, and had a decent core to work with but no superstars. His best trade work (probably the Hanifin/Lindholm trade) was excellent. His worst signings turned out to be worse than anyone could imagine (I don't remember people predicting a total James Neal career-ending fail).
Bennett wanting out is less Treliving's fault than the coaching, and who knows what was going on in Tkachuk's mind at any given time, he may never have stayed here. Maybe Calgary has a bad reputation as a destination, I don't know. But I don't put all this on Treliving alone.
He wasn't a magical GM but he wasn't awful. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Pitt. There's not that many people qualified for the job, really (look at Calgary's current options, it's not like there's a clear bona fide obvious choice).
Time will tell.

The worst thing is we drafted 2 of the best ones now playing for Florida. Makes me sad. Bennett may have been misused. He may not have helped himself at times. But anyone with eyes could see he was a playoff gamer. You don't get rid of players like that.

You do if you're a franchise that cares more about making the playoffs than doing anything once you get there.

I think Treliving will be the frontrunner for the TO job if they decide not renew Dubas. Almost too convienient of a hire.

Wow super impressed by the third win, didn't think it would happen. That probably broke the camel's back.

Winning solves all but honestly, it’s the sports entertainment business and the grind it out game doesn’t bring in fans. I have a slight problem with bringing in Conroy for a variety of reasons but one thing is to continue this philosophical style. In recent years you have to have speed and let your best players score. Leafs are just not playing with heart after the first round win. O’Reilly is past his prime but he could do more physically. Bunting too, while not big, has to get in there and create some chaos.

I have eyes and I didn’t see much out of him ever, and I thought he was a limited player and that his playoff success was overrated given how he scored his goals. I’m still not that sold on Bennett - he certainly isn’t a great 4OA as far as history goes. Sort of middling draft pick at that position at best.

The narrative just changes depending on who wins, when the Wings won it was puck possessions is key, when the kings won it was you need a big team, when the Pens won it was you need speed. You need a good core and you can build different ways around that and get some luck/timing
