Only worked for MTL because Price is tops on the planet.

Even Vasilevskiy is playing pretty human these playoffs.

Dude is in his own league and we have no one as exceptional in any position to "carry us" in the same way.

I do think Sutter + Markstrom could win us a round next year, but doubtful a lengthy run with the kind of competition out there.

I am also happy the Jets are sucking, but Dancing Gabe is a fricking legend.

shouldn't there be a special term for being swept by a team that then goes on to be swept?

The McSweep?

Montreal had trouble beating even Calgary and Vancouver at the end of the year. While Price has made a big difference to be sure, the relentless forechecking of the rest of the team was certainly absent.

Price hasn't been that great for a few seasons at least.

I think this does show that any team can get hot at the right time and make some noise. And it just might be attributable to some decent puck luck.

I would.
Finish the series, then rest.

Also, just watched that cross check into the post after Armia's goal. Jets are a dirty team.

The McSweep?

Whatever the term is, Pittsburgh did one better a couple years ago:

First round: PIT loses 4-0 to NYI
Second round: NYI loses 4-0 to CAR
Third round: CAR loses 4-0 to BOS

That being said, I could easily see Montreal completing the sweep and then getting swept by either Colorado or Vegas.

Will the Habs go all Oiler-esqe and raise a banner to the Canadian Division Playoff Champions 2021?

Montreal hasn’t been great. They’re still not great, but they have Price.

Carey Price, when healthy, is one of the three best goalies on earth. He’s made the playoffs 5 of the last 8 years, played 10+ games four of those times (including this year), and doesn’t have a save percentage under .919 or a GAA above 2.40.

It’s the Sabres with Hasek vs the Sabres Without (though Price is no Hasek)

Yeah but I didn't think the Habs put every banner in the rafters...

Only conference finals / cup wins... I could be wrong.

Didn't the oil raise a banner for the McD Documentary release ??

The only banners at the Bell Centre are for Stanley Cups and retired numbers.

When you have more cup banners than anyone ever, it's pretty easy to have that rule. And the most retired #s as well I think.

Saw a graphic on TSN that said the Habs haven't trailed in a game for 376+ minutes. 5th longest such streak in playoff history.

Amazing.

Habs and Flames weren't that different in the regular season. Both had great underlying advanced stats at 5v5 but below average special teams and they had bad goaltending.

Montreal:

Goals For: 158
Goals Against: 165
5v5 Corsi For: 54.5% (2nd)
5v5 xGF: 52.9 (10th)
PP%: 19.2% (17th)
PK%: 78.5% (23rd)
Shooting Percentage: 9.05% (22nd)
Save Percentage: .896 (27th)

Calgary:

Goals For: 155
Goals Against: 160
5v5 Corsi For: 53.0% (7th)
5v5 xGF: 53.8% (6th)
PP%: 18.3% (21st)
PK%: 80.2% (15th)
Shooting Percentage: 9.18% (20th)
Save Percentage: .899 (23rd)

So very similar.

Biggest difference is that in the playoffs Montreal is now getting great goaltending with Price at a .932 save percentage in the post season.

Could Markstrom have provided something similar for Calgary - my gut feeling is yes. He was starting to come around at the end of the year after struggling for a bit post concussion, and showed that he's capable of doing it early in the season prior to getting hurt.

I kind of hope the Habs complete the sweep so we can close the book forever on the North Division.
