Didn't see this posted, but I thought it was an interesting perspective:

Is there anyone who would be against that?

Very well put into perspective.
One can take it one step further and see the (young) asset growth:
Russell GP 23 0-8-8 rental; 2017 mid to late 2nd rounder in weak draft
for
Lazar (1st round 2013); Dube (2nd round 2016); Pollock (2nd round 2014); Jokipakka GP 56 1-11-12 rental; Koska (AHL D veteran)

To give him some skill to work with I would start him on the wing with Bennett and Versteeg.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Versteeg-Bennett-Lazar
Bouma-Stajan-Brouwer
Chiasson.
See if his piss and vinegar (I think he will bring right away) can kickstart and make a productive third line happen.
4th line, is the most expensive in hockey - but at this time of year and into the playoffs, good to roll 4 lines. Stajan seemed to have a decent thing going with Brouwer the other night, setting him up on a nice goal. Maybe with a little less ice time, Brouwer can go a little more physical.
Chiasson can come in for various players if there are injuries or whatever.

After listening to both treliving and Lazar, I'm even further cemented in my vote of "love it". The team is high on him and he knows full well he needs to step up and sort his issues out from this season. Can't wait to see him progress on this team.

Part of how I view him is a potential up and coming Brouwer. Character guy, heavy player, ability to chip in, RW, playoff warrior.
Brouwer hasn't worked out quite as well as we've liked for our team so far, but like anything you make calculated gambles and hope things gel. Lazar has good potential.

You were excited enough by his potential to promote him early in his development. Then you bailed when he got Mono.
Haha Senators.

Here's the lineup I'd like to see from here on out:
13 Gaudreau - 23 Monahan - 79 Ferland
19 Tkachuk - 11 Backlund - 67 Frolik
10 Versteeg - 93 Bennett - 20 Lazar
17 Bouma - 18 Stajan - 36 Brouwer
39 Chiasson/25 Hamilton
5 Giordano - 27 Hamilton
7 Brodie - 26 Stone
44 Bartkowski - 29 Engelland
6 Wideman
1 Elliott
31 Johnson
I'd also like to see Kulak, Andersson, Kylington, Jankowski, Hathaway, Shinkaruk, Pribyl, and Klimchuk brought up for playoff depth.

Why put Lazar on the left wing?? Swap him with Steeger cause he has played his offwing quite a bit this year and you have a winner my friend!

I'd like to see that Wideman doesn't play another game for the Flames. Give the opportunity to one of the framhands if there are injuries.

OK fine. I like that too.
I think this team will be in good shape next year if we can sign Kulikov, and re-sign Stone, Versteeg, Lazar, Ferland, Elliott, Johnson, Hathaway, and Kulak (+ good AHL guys).
Say goodbye to Engelland, Wideman, Chiasson, Bollig, and Smid.

Definitely agree with those departures for sure but how about Engelland eh?! Turned into an absolute workhorse for us especially this year.

I just want to defend Brouwer a little bit. As easy as it is to say that the Flames are paying him for 82 plus games a season. I truly believe the man earns his paycheck and then some around this time of year and into the playoffs. I really do believe the Brouwer everyone expected to see is showing up just now. It's kind of like how they used Elliott this year, he's good for x amount of games, save those for when the team needs him the most.

One of the good guys. Brad sure likes memorial cup winners. Can't really blame him. Lazar certainly won't be a problem in the dressing room. Really liking the overall character we've acquired in the last couple of years

Hopefully Bennet and Lazar can connect like Mony and Gaudreau did. Lots of upside to this trade.

Lazar is scoring a goal in his first game as a Flame. Book it.
