Yeah I'd like for France to win now so Thiney doesn't jump off a bridge after this. US lineup with Holiday/Rapinoe out:
Solo / O'Hara, Sauerbrunn, Johnston, Krieger / Klingenberg, Brian, Lloyd, Heath / Morgan, Rodriguez

She might come in, or one of Press/Leroux will for sure anyway.

EuroSport commentators pretty strong opinions on that game.
"French lost that game, Germany didn't win"
"The worst performance I have ever seen from a German woman's side at this level"
"Americans must be looking at this thinking, not a problem..."
"Yeah, but Germany can't play any worse"

No kidding. 20 years old. Only 9 caps. Promising young player though with lots of skill, I hope she doesn't take this too hard. France should have potted a few in the first 10 minutes, and I guess Thiney redeemed herself by scoring her penalty. But missing that wide open net was inexcusable.
"Germany can't play any worse" is an accurate statement by that commentator, but US at some point will start playing as good as they're capable of if their coach gets her stuff together, and could be come unbeatable at any moment.
Tough seeing France out with China and England still in.

And people will forget Lavogez made that chance for Thiney. Unreal. She could have trapped that ball and walked it in she was so open

As expected.
Montreal had just under 25,000 for FRA-GER. Disappointing to an extent, but better than Commonwealth would have done and probably comparable to BC Place.

Have the Americans played kick and chase the whole tournament or just tonight?

US was actually less kick and chase tonight than they were earlier. It was Rapinoe and Holiday sending a lot of long balls but with them out the skill of Heath was better on display.

Just back from the game. Absolute dominance from the US. China never threatened once at all mainly due to their head scratching cautiousness and total negativity. Even at 1-0 down in the last 10 they were more concerned with keeping their back 4 back than chasing down an equaliser.
I was very impressed by the US. That was as comfortable as it gets.

Yeah I worry about the ability of anybody to score on that defense. Johnston and Krieger in particular look impenetrable and then you have the best goalie in Solo. Weakness is really up front with Morgan who can't seem to get anything going, Wambach who has lost all her pace, and Leroux/Press who have a ton of pace but can't finish.

And I had a head scratching moment before the game when they had fire hoses out watering down the artificial surface. Same at half time.
Turns out apparently it lowers the temperature at pitch level by about 5 degrees and cooling the surface minimises turf burn. Who knew?
