Anybody have any official word on Wahl getting the call up? I can't seem to find anything. Really hope it's true. Would be great if he could get back on track.

I was listening to an interview with Feaster on Team 1040 and he said Baertschi would be the only player out of the lineup on Friday vs. the Wolves.

RT @Aportzline: Some #NHL clubs are trying to set up scrimmage vs. #AHL affiliates. #CBJ considered it, but not going to happen.
How cool would it be to see Flames vs Heat?

That would be cool, but I think it might be a little unfair to Ward and the rest of the guys. They're in the middle of a season and to exhibition against an NHL team might sidetrack them a little bit from the real goal (a Calder Cup).

It says so here: http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php
Not getting my hopes up, but I'm looking forward to seeing him. He'll likely be given a top-6 spot.

That sounds like the setup for a joke. The Bluejackets were considering it, but didn't want to get embarrassed by their farm team.

At other points in the season, when the Heat have had a full week between games, it might have been workable, but with their schedule next week, they'd either be doing it the day after back-to-back games or the day before.

Good on Mitch Wahl for his call-up to Abbotsford! He deserves it based on his play in the ECHL. I have tempered expectations, but hopefully he has a good run in the AHL.
In 30 games with the Utah Grizzlies this year, he's recorded 39 points (11 goals + 28 assists).

He played very well tonight. He was easily handling Stortini.
Good game overall. The Ruegsegger-Bancks-Laing line is the most tenacious line I've ever witnessed.

2-1 Shootout win tonight over Hamilton gives the Heat their first back-to-back wins since November 23/24.

Ruegsegger was an absolute monster this weekend. Game winner last night, shootout winner tonight. Talk about embracing the adversity after the Heat lost 46% of their offense to Calgary, temporarily.
Ruegsegger is arguably the best fourth liner the Heat have ever had. No joke.

Wow I did not realize it was that long since the last back to back wins, almost 2 months. The two wins has the Heat trailing the Marlies 2 points for the division lead, although the Marlies have 2 games in hand.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but:
@TSNBobMcKenzie: I suspect one of CGY's well-travelled but resilient AHL netminders - Barry Brust or Danny Taylor - may get an NHL contract at some point.

He repeated this in the Pre-Season Show just a few hours ago too. He sounded pretty sure of himself too.
If they do sign one of those guys, I hope it's Taylor. Not much else can be said about him. He's just a great AHL goalie and has improved ten fold since he first arrived in Abby last season.
Nothing against Brust. I just don't think his style would translate well to the NHL. Then again, he's as close to Tim Thomas style-wise as you can get and he won the Vezina...

Brust is too crazy in net and plays out of position waaay too much, he would get torn apart in the NHL. If they sign a goalie in the I really hope it's Taylor.

I've been curious about what happens if Karlsson goes back to Europe. IIRC when this discussion came up the rules don't specify the required 3rd goalie on contract has to be in North America, so maybe they'd only need to sign Taylor or Brust if/when the actual need arises. The only real concern is the contract limit this season so if we shed one or two somehow it would make it much less significant.

That kind of thing can be reigned in by a goalie coach and it often naturally gets toned down when a guy jumps up a level. In the AHL though his aggressiveness been his downfall on some goals, it's also been the reason for a bunch of good saves or broken up plays too. I'd still probably favor Taylor but it's close to a toss-up for me.

Wahl and Eddy have been assigned to Utah per the transaction page on http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php
Interesting to note that Karlsson has been assigned to Abbotsford on that page as well
