EDIT: I'm aware my issues with this make me a crazy person.

I don't need a data plan, so why pay for it? I work from home, where I have wifi. I travel to the US to my cabin, but I have wifi there as well. Why spend money on something that's not needed? By your logic, I should get a flip phone for calls and texting, an iPod touch for music, a camera for pictures, and a gps watch for when I jog. I may or may not need a US phone as well. Depends on the CDN phone, and the carrier I choose to be with.
If I decide to get a job back downtown...I hope that never happens, then I would get a data plan.

^ those are some downright gushing reviews. Amazing considering the whole "It just has a longer screen" hype had the critics set to slam this thing.
I agree, iOS does need an overhaul, but given OSX has been around for 12 years, I doubt it will happen until it needs to.
Also, the fact that Lightning is only USB 2.0 is brutal, even for Apple.
That said, it looks like it is the best all round phone to date. Although I guess I will have to live with missing out on all those NFC enabled registers in Calgary.

I'm with you. If I don't need it, why pay for it?
And yes I realize the irony, given my user name.

Doesn't Rogers allow you to purchase their 'smartphones' without a data plan? You just have to pay more outright for the phone.

Looks like pre-orders are now "3-4 weeks". Demand appears to continue to be robust.
Or . . . they're just screwing with your mind and they're a lying bully.

My wife pre-ordered at 5:00 on Friday; she got a call that her phone was in transit and they asked what time she wanted to pick it up this Friday.
I pre-ordered at a different Bell store at noon; and they seemed a little wishy-washy about me being able to get it this Friday. I know it's just a phone; and just an upgrade, but I am going to be a little ticked off if she gets hers and I have to wait.

Downloading now. 599MB download. Need 2.5 gigs to install. I hope it doesn't take that much space on the phone.

Anyone know how to download Passbook apps? I can't seem to locate them on iTunes.
Would really like the Delta one as I have a flight coming up.

That was added about 3 days ago. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver I think all had it about a month ago. Unfortunately it's only downtown, but it's still pretty cool.
We were checking out Rome today on an iPad... that was impressive.

You can create your own using Passsource ( http://www.passsource.com). Haven't tried it yet, but according to Ars Technica it works...
