I love reading the other thread. "That character isn't important, why did they get screen time?" "That wasn't advancing the main plot, why show it?"

They just have no idea of the scope of what they dealing with, and I like how the book seems to have only one "main plot"...

Yeah, Azure seems to be bragging that he skipped parts where 2 insignificant characters were talking, then complains about other characters just disappearing.
Hey dofus:
1) Perhaps you skipped some important dialogue.
2) In a series famous for killing main characters, how can you know who is a minor character
3) There is no "main" plot, you just can't give all the plots the same screen time. There are almost as many plots as characters


And cDnStealth may not have read the books but I'm guessing he has either looked up spoilers or has a friend who is feeding him info.

Really enjoyed the final episode and the season overall.

I have read that they don't want more than about 7 seasons but I have no idea at all how you fit the final 4 books into 3 TV seasons. I think that this plan may change in the future, similar to how GRRM's plans have changed since the originally planned trilogy of novels.

In addition, asking GRRM to finish ADoS by 2016 so it can be shot and ready to air in 2017 is... a stretch at best.

Are they not going to have Dany exile Jorah? I thought for sure that was how they would end it.. wasn't that supposed to have happened already?

Edit: ok read the Wiki, that happens in Mereen.. got it. That would have been a good cliff hanger to end it on though.

I think the ending with Dany being carried by the freed slaves is supposed to have totally opposite meanings for those who have read the books vs. those who haven't. Those who haven't see it as Dany gathering power and building influence.

If you've read the book and look at the faces of the slaves and Dany in the last scene, you can see that she is getting too absorbed in these city-state liberations and losing focus on her big picture. Even when she tells her dragons to go fly and then goes to crowd surf in the slaves is foreshadowing how she becomes more focused on the slaves than the dragons and her destiny. Telling the dragons to go fly could foreshadow her later loss of control over their activities.

I know the above doesn't really add anything new, but I thought it was interesting how that scene could be seen totally differently by different people.

If they do season 4 right, it'll be the best season yet. There are so many awesome events left in the 3rd book. I mean, I can already tell Peter Dinklage is going to win awards after next season...

Am I the only one that actually likes that storyline? I think it's a pretty cool little side story, there's been a lot that has explained how she got where she is and why she is fit to be a just and good queen. I like that she is generally a good character and amassing this ridiculous army. We all know that when she makes it across the sea, which for sure will happen, #### is going to get real. Can't wait for that!

Could use a little more dragon death though.

So, after some thought in the other thread, it occured to me that while I was finding Dany's story to be one of the most compelling at the start, I've been feeling that it's really dropped off of late. It does seem like she has no direction beyond "free all the people". Which is noble enough, true. It just seems like she's not really doing anything except showing her age, which I can't fault her for.

Though maybe I just need to wait a bit more. At least now she's decided to settle down some and get down to learning how to rule.

The people talking about Blackfish escaping from the Red Wedding and wondering about his "vengeance" against the Frey's makes me sad. One of the coolest characters in the book (and a fantastic actor on the TV show) that Martin did absolutely nothing with

He's still unaccounted for though. He could come back in books 6-7 and make an impact. Lots of potential still there.

He also holds on to river run for a while so we will see more of him in season 4 I am sure. Including a scene between him and Jamie that could be pretty good.

He ends up in some Lords keep.. I can't remember who, but there is a part in the book where they ask Is Brynden in there? The lord says no.. then they ask again, Would you tell us even if he was? The Lord responds no again... I thought that was great. Unless I am thinking of the wrong person.

I've heard theories about how Stannis is going to lead the Others as the Night King. Here's the theory;

The general gist of the theory is that in the future Stannis will find himself abandoned by his closest allies (Melisandre will realize Jon is AA and will leave him, taking the devout soldiers in his service with her and possibly even his family, the Northmen in his service are only on his side so long as Rickon or Jon don't stake a claim, etc.) and in that moment of desperation (and possibly his death) he will break before he bends and be reborn as the Night's King.
There's a lot of foreshadowing for this, some of my favorites include:

• The quote above where Dany dreams that "The Usurper" leads his host of ice soldiers to the Trident and she meets him in battle. Dany is playing the role of her older brother, it only makes sense that Stannis would be Robert's doppelganger.
• The interesting thing about ASOIAF is that many characters have a historical or legendary analogue because:

"History is a wheel, for the nature of man is fundamentally unchanging. What has happened before will perforce happen again."

• The caveat however is that history repeats itself in an inverted manner. For example, Jaime mirrors Prince Aemon the Dragonknight. Both were Lord Commanders of the Kingsguard who were in love with their sisters, both of whom were queens, and both are rumored to have secretly fathered the heir to the throne. The inversion is that Aemon is celebrated as a true and honorable knight who defended his sister's honour and gave his own life to protect his king, whereas Jaime is condemned for killing his king and has abandoned his sister in her time of need.
• With that in mind, there are numerous inverted parallels between Stannis and the Night's King. Stannis has claimed the Nightfort as his own, the historical seat of the Night's King. The Night's King was seduced by a blue woman with blue eyes and cold skin, Stannis has been enthralled by a red woman with red eyes and warm skin. The Night's King sacrificed to his dark gods and when he gave his seed to the blue woman he gave his soul as well. Stannis sacrifices to R'hllor and has sacrificed his own life force in order to spawn shadow babies with Melisandre. The Night's King served the Others, Stannis will lead them.
• Tywin says this of Stannis: "The man will fight to the bitter end and then some."
• Stannis has a vision in the flames of a king being consumed by his fiery crown. Once fire has burned him, what will be left? Something broken and dark and cold.
• On the subject of Stannis' Lightbringer, Maester Aemon warns Sam that one who bears a sword that shines but does not cast heat can only lead people further into the darkness.
• The story of Proudwing, the injured goshawk Stannis adopted and ultimately abandoned, and the lesson Stannis learned from it play heavily into this theory. The gist of it is Stannis learned that if something could no longer serve his interests then he would have to move on, forsaking what he knows in order to harness something new. He uses this as his justification for giving up the Seven in favor of R'hllor, because trusting in Melisandre and her Red God will give him the power he needs to fight his enemies. But if Melisandre and her Red God abandon him, where else is he to turn? See the next point.
• In ACOK, Stannis says this to Davos:

“I trusted in [Cressen's] wisdom and your wiles, and what did they avail me, smuggler? The storm lords sent you packing. I went to them a beggar and they laughed at me. Well, there will be no more begging, and no more laughing either. The Iron Throne is mine by rights, but how am I to take it? There are four kings in the realm, and three of them have more men and more gold than I do. I have ships . . . and I have her. The red woman. Half my knights are afraid even to say her name, did you know? If she can do nothing else, a sorceress who can inspire such dread in grown men is not to be despised. A frightened man is a beaten man. And perhaps she can do more. I mean to find out.

• Stannis declares that there is power in fear and that he intends to exploit that if it means victory. If Melisandre and the Northmen were to abandon Stannis, Stannis would need to find another army. Where might Stannis find an army that strikes fear into the heart of men? Where might he find the power to stand up to R'hllor and his holy fire? Stannis will not beg, he will bind the Others to his will using sacrifice. Craster has proved that the Others can be mollified so long as you give them what they want. Stannis has exactly the means to do that: he controls the Nightfort, which means he controls the Black Gate and passage through the Wall. In the past, the Night's King ruled with his Other bride as his queen by his side, which means there must be a way for the Others to cross. The Black Gate might well be the answer. We know Coldhands can't cross, but wights aren't the same as the Others.

Seems pretty solid. Anybody have some theories for TWoW and after?

Jamie asks Tytos Blackwood, but iirc correctly there is no proof that Blackfish is actually there; I think Jaime just thinks so because the Blackwoods were the last ones still fighting.
