It's been a while since I commented on the board but it has been an amazing month and a half for Patrick Holland. He has went on a tear. The Tri-Cities Americans are ranked #1 in the most recent CHL poll and much of this is due to his recent success. The Americans have won 11 in a row. Last night Holland pictched in four helpers and a fight (not your best fighter but wouldn't back down after being challenged) after a game that he took 1st star in with a goal and two assists. His point totals now stand at 15 goals and 36 assists. He is so patient and strong with the puck! What a joy to watch!

Yeah, Holland has 5 goals and 10 assists in his last 5 games. (3.00 points per game)

9 goals and 15 assists in his last 11 games. (2.18 points per game)

14 goals and 22 assists in his last 21 games. (1.71 points per game)

He might turn out to be an unbelievable 7th round draft pick.

It will be interesting to see the Heat next year. A Ferland-Reinhart-Holland line could be an interesting mixture of offensive skills and smart defensive play.
Don't forget Larson is able to play in the AHL if he gets signed. I can't wait till all the college kids get into Abby or Calgary.

Doesn't Larson have one more year left in school?

As grim as things are on the big club now, there is some hope 2-3 years down the road, even if the Flames don't get some high picks.

Unfortunately, the transition period during those 2-3 years is likely going to be ugly.

LOL, Holland has another 2 goals and an assist so far tonight with 15 minutes left in the third.

That kid is putting up Sven-like numbers.

So that's the third (!) 4-point-game for Holland IN A ROW unreal. I propose that from now on, a 4-point-night shall be called a "Holland" he now has 17 goals and 38 assists for 55 points in 38 games. He is already close to his numbers of last year, where he had 62 in 71 games. Feaster has to sign him soon!!!

Other prospects played yesterday as well:

- Mitch Wahl was scoreless in Hamilton's 5-2 win.

- the Utah Grizzlies prospects were all scoreless in a 3-1 loss to Alaska. It's worth noting that the Grizzlies were icing just 13 skaters ... Alaska had 16

- Michael Ferland scored the only Brandon goal in a 4-1 loss. Now that Stone is back, I expect Ferland's production to improve again.

- Turner Elson was scoreless and -1 in a 3-2 loss.

- Tyler Wotherspoon was scoreless and +1 in a 3-1 win. Sven did not play - he gave an interview for HockeyFuture where he talks about the concussion. He says he feels quite good and expects to be back soon. Also interesting: he says that the Winterhawks want him to play right now, but the Flames want him to get completely healthy before.

Ortio stopped 20 of 22 shots last night coming on in relief of Danny Taylor. He still takes the L in a 4-3 loss to Grand Rapids.

Is Sven going to play tonight? Probably not. Not like their in any rush to get him back when Rattie is leading the league in scoring. He should rest up though.

There's a long way to go, and as this season gets into the "dog days", scoring will be tougher, but it appears that the scoring leaders in the WHL are well ahead of last year's leaders: I think 116 points lead the league last year (Vey). This year it appears the number of players with over 100 points will double at least.

Any thoughts why...probably nothing.

Patrick Holland was +1 as Tri-City beat Everett 4-0.

Tyler Wotherspoon had a goal, was -1, as Portland got beat up 8-4 in Vancouver.

Turner Elson had a assist, was -1, as Red Deer lost 3-2 in OT to Medicine Hat.

Joey Leach was +1 as Kootenay lost 3-2.

Michael Ferland had 2 goals, a assist, and 4 PIM as Brandon blew out Prince Albert 11-3.

I haven't been following the Heat this season. Any word on Ryan Howse? People was so excited about this guy when he was in junior last season. Now I barely hear anything about this guy.

There's been some discussion on him in the 'General Heat Discussion' thread if you look at the last few pages.

Apparently he's out with a possible shoulder injury at the moment. Very unlucky for the guy considering that with all of the call-ups he may have had an opportunity to show his stuff.

Something that could be interesting regarding Ferland: the Wheat Kings have acquired center Kevin Sundher (a Sabres 3rd round pick 2010) from the Victoria Royals via trade. So now they have the 3rd best (Stone), 7th best (Sundher) and 15th best (Ferland) scorers of the WHL on the team. A Ferland-Sundher-Stone line could rack up a lot of points and help the Wheat Kings' playoff chances, so I think this acquisition should boost Ferland's numbers.
