He should have stayed at Huddersfield Town.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Manager Kenny Dalglish's worst fears were confirmed after series of scans revealed damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in Lucas' left knee; a real blow considering how well he had started the season.

Bad news for us. They've recalled Jonjo Shelvey from Blackpool. Methinks January might be interesting now.

Dont know where else to put this, but it made me chuckle.
Spurs need PAOK to defeat Rubin Kazan while Spurs need to beat Shamrock by 5 in order to qualify. PAOK is already through and so Redknapp was concerned that they would rest their starting players:
Quote:
With the firepower available to them, there is a chance that Spurs could qualify, but Redknapp is not confident at all.
"I am disappointed now because we are not going to be in the last 32," Redknapp said. "It's very slim - it is very difficult now.
"I wanted to stay in the competition but it wasn't to be. Full credit to the opposition, they worked hard and looked dangerous."
With PAOK having already qualified, they could be forgiven for resting their first team against Rubin in a fortnight's time, but manager Laszlo Boloni assured Redknapp that will not happen.
He said: "I promise to Tottenham, that I will not pick my second team. You know why? Because I don't have a second team!"

Exiting that competition will be one of the best things that could happen to the Spuds in the long run.
Geez, if we qualify for that next season, they'd better be selling the tickets for a tenner. And while I have my wishlist out, a complimentary Chicken Balti pie would seal the deal for me.

Ya no complaints, would have been nice to let some of the kids have more of a run out in games but success was never in the cards
first team wouldn't have started playing until the QF's

What is there out there that might be available in January as far as defensive midfielders go?

Comoli is apparently a huge fan of Moussa Sissoko, but he isn't a defensive midfielder, he is more of an attacking midfielder. I bet we give Spearing a chance to prove he can handle the job, as he has been decent for us in that position previously.

You're probably right and I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea, but let's face it, the way Lucas has been playing for the last 12 months or so, he's going to be a hard guy to replace and Spearing probably isn't gonna be up to it. IMO, if someone new isn't acquired, Charlie Adam's gonna be pressed into a little bit more of a defensive role to try and compensate for the loss of Lucas. Hopefully we don't see too many cards as a result.
And, oh yeah, I have no time for Shelvey.

I'm happy to admit I was wrong about the idea of EPL matches being shown on tape delay in direct competition with NFL games.:
Due to the success of the EPL on Fox Sunday replays of games played earlier in the day, Fox is going to be showing a few upcoming games live over broadcast TV. These will be the first EPL games broadcast live over a non cable network in the U.S.
FOX to Broadcast Arsenal vs. Manchester United LIVE on Jan 22
Quote:
FOX’s broadcast of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat of Chelsea on Nov. 20 is the most-watched Barclays Premier League match of the three on the network, delivering a 1.1 household rating, with 1.67 million total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Of the five international soccer matches broadcast on FOX since 2010, only 2011s UEFA Champions League Final between Barcelona and Manchester United drew a bigger audience (2.6 million) than Chelsea-Liverpool in November.
Showing the Arsenal against Manchester United live on free-to-air television in the United States will hopefully boost FOX’s TV ratings for the live broadcast of Chelsea against Manchester United, scheduled to be shown live on Super Bowl Sunday on FOX at 11am ET.

They'll have at least one viewer seeing as how the only alternative for watching this match will probably be on Setanta SD in my house. Not looking forward to the pre-game commentary but glorious HD will make up for it.

Nope. All 3.
Well, I shouldnt say that, Liverpool had every chance to win that game, its just wasteful and poor finishing. Again, still, however you want to look at it, they've just been wasting too many chances.

Bryan Ruiz doing his best to win over the Fulham faithful
Quote:
Ruiz told Dutch magazine Voetbal International: "I did not want Fulham. Previously Tottenham interested. This is a club that you say 'yes' to. But it was never real.
"On August 30 Fulham arrived in the bidding. My manager called and said there was an agreement between the clubs and that we were going to London. I hesitated again, but he convinced me.
"Attractive financial terms and a conversation with Martin Jol won me over."

Ya I don't think the misunderstanding argument will work this time. Pretty sure that means the same thing in Uruguay as is does anywhere.

His situation was odd. I was really surprised when he went to Fullham because I thought there was at least a few of the really big clubs interested in him. I thought he was going to an absolute steal for them, but so far I don't think he has done much at all.

Maybe a suspension will get his head on straight.

Shanghai Shenhua remain confident of securing the signature of Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka after claiming a three-year contract is in the process of being agreed.
Anelka, 32, is set to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window after he and defender Alex had transfer requests accepted last week, with the pair subsequently now training away from the first-team.
