If the flames had 21 year old gaudreau 5_7 years earlier, iginla would have won the rocket Richard every year.
No doubt. His ability to make plays no one else can even think possible us unreal. He just needs a bonafide sniper to finish these ridiculous chances he sets up. Like a James Neal or iggy in his prime.

Sean Monahan? Probably the best shot on our team.

I think the thing that impresses me the most about him though is that he makes smart decisions. I think he could totally be padding his offensive stats if he wanted to play a more selfish game, but he is all about the team it seems.
He still seems to be learning and adapting, but you can tell he really thinks the game and isn't just reacting. His hockey IQ is off the charts. In a lot of ways he still reminds me of Huselius the way he almost teases the opposition with the puck. He makes it seem like he is going to be an easy target, but as soon as they come for him, he just kind of slips away all the while pulling them out of position. He creates a lot of room on the ice that way.

Not since Iginla in his prime has anyone here cared about a Flame around here, besides friends who are Flames fans. We would kinda just talk amongst ourselves.
At a Christmas party, every hockey conversation that came up eventually ended with Gaudreau. More recently, especially after we played the Leafs, I regularly get texts from people about how amazing this kid is. One friend is 100% obsessed with him. He watches Flames games to watch him, and is seriously contemplating a Gaudreau jersey. He is also the most die-hard Leaf fan I've ever known.
As a rookie, this kid has changed the entire public perception of the team. Their hot start certainly helped, but he's been a catalyst for sure. It was always fun to be 'that guy' around here, but it's definitely way more fun now! Gaudreau, in his rookie year, is slowly becoming a household name in SW Ontario. It's unreal.

Cool video. Really shows how this kid just lives and breathes the game. Also shows how humble he is. We're lucky to have a kid like this as part of the core of this team.
What really stands out to me every time I listen to a Gaudreau interview is how humble the kid is. He is just so likeable. He is always giving credit to his team mates and to his coaches. How can you not love him?

We're really witnessing something special with this kid. I've never seen anyone play like him, he doesn't fall into a category like other players. In my life I've never seen anyone spin off checks like he does or pivot the puck with his stick like he does.
Gaudreau kind of pivots with his feet, wrists and shoulders but keeps his waist the same and can pull a 180 with the puck like a vehicle with a rear steering axle and it seems weird but he scored with it yesterday. Never seen anyone do that, it freezes the opposition because they are just staring at him like wtf is going on.

Exactly. This sums up why this kid is making things happen whenever the puck is on his stick. Its so tough to check him when the other team can't read what he is going to do next.

Yup. I still worry that someone will catch him given his size and of course, it will always be a possibility but because his IQ is so high, he seems to always be aware of everyone around him and where they are going. He has the ability to make sharp cuts without much space immediately and no doubt he's had to learn to do this throughout his playing career given his size.
He must be the smallest and lightest player to ever make it, right?

I've seen players try to line him up, he literally spins off checks. I'm less worried about him getting hit than someone like Poirier, Byron or Bennett because they can't spin like he does. It's like Johnny turns the forward momentum into rotational momentum and absorbs the hit that way, he's done it many times. The only time he's been caught is in the preseason when he dodged a check completely so the other guy hit him with a backhand because he missed the check, wasn't too happy watching Johnny's head bounce off the glass on a dirty hit.

Gerbe is the shortest at 5'5", although he outweighs Gaudreau by 30 pounds.
