Telus Optik is terrible. Their Internet is not even on Shaw's level. I have the best of everything.
Bell TV - every channel incl. some ethnics $168 incl. taxes
Shaw 50 Internet is a monster - $40 a month for a year with free basic tv. LOL.
best of everything.

if u only include English channels then I pay Bell $130/month for every channel that they currently offer in a package. only thing I don't have is their specialty Setanta Sports channel.
Bell TV is the best. nothing else comes close in quality/variety.
Shaw's Internet is also hands down the best. It smashes Telus' sad excuse of an Internet. only 15mbps speeds. lol compared to my shaw BB 50. I download movies at like 4 MB/s.

i have to wonder how much internet you really need after 15,30 megabits. 40? 50? 100??? for what? i suppose if you have a lot of people using it that's very beneficial...

Not too impressed with Telus right now.
I have the XBox for my STB so today I had to upgrade to the XBox Gold account. I knew it was coming but they always trick you with an upgrade to start. So I ran the required upgrade and then I can't watch TV because I don't have the account. After pissing around with the remote control trying to enter my address and billing info I gave up and went to a computer to sign in and upgrade the account to XBOX Gold. Now the XBox recognizes my upgrade but Telus doesn't when I try to watch TV. So I have to call Telus to talk to tech support and wait on hold. They told me it was Microsoft's fault and I should call them but I convinced her that I could sign into XBox gold with my XBox just not into Optic. After waiting on hold again she told me that if I was using my XBox previously to watch TV then they have to update my account with Telus to recognize the change. I am now on hold for the third time while she tries to upgrade my account. I sure hope she can fix this quickly. Going on 75 minutes...
I just want to run on the treadmill while watching TV but instead I have spent the last hour trying to setup this stupid box. I didn't even want the XBox in the first place, I wanted a second STB but they told me I could have this one for free as compensation for them accidentally disconnecting all of my services for the first week that I moved into my new house.
I love Telus' system when it is working but when it isn't I am ready to cancel everything and call Bell back.
/end rant

Maybe I'm just the luckiest guy when it comes to services, but I've never had an issue with customer service with Telus. I updated to the xbox Live Gold Account on the computer, called Telus said I had done that so I could watch TV and asked to get credited the $50 bucks or whatever it was, had to speak to a second person that understood what I was asking for but it was done and my Telus account online was credited with the Live Account amount within 10 minutes.
Anytime I've changed packages on the TV, I've called and it's been done very quickly with no wait time. I had to call for a service once early on when my TV and Internet didn't work one Sunday morning. I was beginning to get a bit angry because it was almost time for football to start, but I called at 10am on a Sunday morning and by 11:30 the tech was at my place and replaced the router and gave us a different remote for the STB because our wasn't working properly.
I've been quite happy with my Telus service for a little over a year now.

Any news on if they are changing their Router? I hate the Actiontec V1000H... Can I get a better one through Telus?

To follow up it is all done now and I am happy again.
It is just frustrating because the updates always come at the start. Why can't it tell you that you will need to perform the update within the next few days so that you can start the process when you are done watching TV.
Anyway, I haven't played with it too much yet, but the new interface does look pretty good and I think it is faster. (The speed could be my imagination though)

I believe it's faster as well. Played around with the voice commands using the Kinect to control the TV for a bit. Novel idea, but pretty useless I think at the moment, hopefully it'll get better and control the guide and such in the future. All in all, I actually like using the xbox over the telus STB

just curious, why is that?
how fast does the guide download? Since the xbox isn't always on it has to refresh every time you boot the xbox up, and also.. i guess i have an older xbox, but the noise the xbox makes seems like it would hinder my viewing experience.

My xbox doesn't make much noice at all, not noticeable with the TV on anyway. True that you have to wait a bit for the guide and the actual Optik to come on everytime you turn the xbox on, but once it's going it seems to respond faster then my Telus STB. I also like being able to just press one button to the previous channel guide to pop up. Really handy when watching sports so can pull up the previous channels and see what's on commercial before flipping to the channel. On the Telus STB that guide just comes up after you've switched to the previous channel.

I don't hear the XBOX at all unless there is a disc inside when starting up. And even then , once Optik loads up I don't hear anything.

Any chance of HDNet being picked up now that Shaw dropped it? I apologize if I missed this in the preceding pages?

I have always wished for HDNet.
I have 3 STBs and no XBOXes, so I don't feel anyone's pain about those.
I do wish I had gotten something free though- I just had good pricing for the first year (now the pricing is pretty steep)

Sorry to reply to my own post, but HDNet will be AXS.tv starting this summer, and will continue to carry some of the same programming (MMA). PsnaP, do you know if Telus will offer this?
