Looks like I am in need of laptop as I'll be travelling to States for a few months. Since I recently built my desktop I don't particularly want to spend a lot of money ($1000). Anyone have any suggestions? I'll end up using it for lighter gaming (Rocket League, Civ, X-Com 2 etc).

I have a slightly higher-end version of the MSI, and while it does what I need it to do, it's not particularly compact, and it doesn't feel very well-built.

My g/f's dad just bought one and I have to agree, it seems to lack in build quality. And the battery life isn't great either.
I think Nvidia will hold their own conference prior to this, While they will likely discuss their chip and how its changed (Ray Tracing support, maybe a use for tensor cores on the mainstream chip) I can't see them using Hot Chips as their method of delivery.
Their CEO would never let someone other then himself stand on stage to present a new card, as it has the VP of Asic Engineering doing to presentation I have my doubts.
I'm hoping we hear something more concrete in the next few weeks, with the massive price normalizations in gpu's and even steep discounts on some cards through amazon the other day, the time is closer then August me thinks.
I'm waiting on the new 35" Ultrawides myself, but the 27" are going to be pretty dang nice; especially once the gpu's catch up to run 4k at those refresh rates.
Think I actually prefer the look of the Acer version this time around.
This might sound like a stupid question but to run these new 4K 144hz monitors at said refresh rate it will require a video card that isn't out yet or two 1080 Ti?

Pretty much, maybe not even then.
