If i recall correctly, hasn't GMCC stated he'd prefer to follow the dallas stars method when it comes to "re-tooling" in a lot of his intervies? For example: sprinkle in young talent, focus on drafting and developing, and building around current veterans.
IF that's the method he's been following, id argue he is doing exactly what he's stated all along

The Dallas method is simply getting once in a lifetime lucky in a draft.

Same could be said about the Pittsburgh, Chicago, Colorado, and Tampa Bay models.

Dallas may not be a model but he did a number on Debbie.

Everyone is trying to do the Dallas model at all times by default, doesn't really count as a model.

I feel the same way, its really still the older core players + solid goal tending that is getting them by, what are Kadri and Backlund going to look in 1.5 years from now, huby might start regressing a bit.
Gives me coach Hartley vibes, could see this team sneak in this year, but not sustainable over the next 5 years

I get what youre saying but its a spectrum. Every team is going to have some vets.
But some teams definitely burned it down more then others, like sanjose and Chicago.
I think the Blues have been trying to do that "dallas" model. But they've been uncusscesful so far.
Capitals did something similar, but also went hard on finding guys with redflags that were undervalued like chychrun and PLD.
Nashville went opposite. Just went hard on UFAs. They even traded away alot of their young guys. This has been disastrous.
I think what's clear is the flames aren't burning it down like sanjose and Chicago. Atleast not any more then they have to if vets force there way out. And it doesn't look like they're doing the nashville model either, thank God.

Yeah
You gotta believe that by the time we are truly relevant again it will be with a different coach and without some of the young talent we are high on at the moment

I am not sure if he really is available, buffalo can't afford to start rebuilding, i just don't see them trading him for pennies on the dollar, they are going to want a quality center coming back, couple that with the kid is not playing well, it begs the question "why even trade for him in the first place if he can't live up to his contract" difficult trade to make IMO

We've almost mirrored the Dallas model but over different drafts.
Oettinger = Wolf
Heiskanen = Parekh
Robertson = ?? (Selected 39th Overall)

I used to think this way but I'm not so sure anymore. Wolf and some of thr other young guys have come out stronger then I thought.
The "new core" will be in there mid 20s through this period. I dont see them fully bottoming out.

I don't know that the cost would be worth it but the guy Conroy should be kicking tires on is Elias Petterson. Warts and all, he's the one guy that is worth taking a swing at.

Now show us a 28 year old Benn or 25 year old Seguin.
It’s not a model. They had a really good draft. But I’ve ever seen them as contenders.

In the last 5 years, the Stars have been to the SCF and WCF twice. They're 5th in the league this season. During that 5-year window Seguin hasn't gotten more than 52 points, and mostly been sub-50. Huberdeau has outperformed that. Benn was all over the place with season ranging from 46 points to 78 points. Zary should be able to do that in a couple years, he's already on pace for the low end, and improvement is anticipated

Suniev, Battaglia as well. I think there's at least 2 impact NHL players there, at least.
Then our backend is stacked with Mews and Brzustewicz, Morin, Soloyov, Kuznetsov, Poirier to go with Parekh, Weegar, Bahl.
