I didn't think I was going to watch the new Flash movie. But I did, and boy did it meet expectations. As with most DC outside a a Supes or Batman movie, it was very very meh.

Even the glorious return of Keaton as Batman couldn't save it for me. Which was a bummer. But honestly his Batman is still the best and it showed.

There is just such a multitude of films out there that deserve criticism before Hot Fuzz. You really have to be forcing your disdain, and that's kind of lame.

I'm just going to assume Wright flirted with your wife at an airport lobby or something, because then at least it makes sense.

Damn, The Whale was uncomfortable to watch. It was excellent, and Frasier was incredible...but damn. It's on Prime Video now.

Stylistically his movies are a tier above your average hollywood comedy. Creative exposition and transitions, not just your standard, lazy methods. He weaves comedy into the mundane with pans and angles that help the humour in the script to land.

Hot Fuzz is also one of the more quotable films of the last decade and a half or so. Up there with Step Brothers. It's a gem. I think the appreciation for it is a matter of personal taste more than a reflection of Wright's competence as a director.

There's a lot of brit humour, and that doesn't always translate effectively to a north american audience either.

I think the fact that it doesn't fit into traditional boxes of JUST mystery or comedy or thriller is what helps it stand out. But if you don't jive with what it's going for, and need it to fall into one of those genres then perhaps it's less of an enjoyable watch.
I love most of his movies; and even if the movie itself isnt a favourite, its hard not to enjoy the visual appeal or the cinematography - all in a director's wheelhouse.

The comedy aspects are also great - and some are so geniously subtle.

There is a scene in The World's End when Pegg is supposed to pick up his four friends at the train station at 3PM; they are all mad as he is almost an hour late. In the same scene, Pegg makes a comment that gets dead stares from the four friends - the camera pans to each individual friend's stare and each time it pans you can hear a church bell go off for the four of them (indicating the 4PM time).

It is one of the best uses of call-back comedy i have seen

Yeah, the 'welcome to Juarez' sequence is one of the few movie sequences I'll watch from time to time on its own, just for how amazing that one scene is. And it has one of the most influential scores in modern movie-making... so many movies since have used that effect of stringed instruments repeatedly and slowly dropping in pitch to build tension, but it's never as well-executed as Johansson does there, over the percussive sound of the helicopter blades. Probably one of my top 5 scenes of all time.

A director I wish we'd see more from is Jared Hess.

Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite are all-time classics.

I expected a total piece of ####, watched it and was pleasantly surprised, it was watchable and not too tough to follow, with some hilariously bad CGI just for some extra laughs...It's all about expectations I guess

Can someone just make a cut of all the Keaton scenes.

That's all I need to see and nothing more.

The sttess building in that scene is brilliant, and it's bolstered by the score. I love it, too.

Yes it was. Comedy is not completely dead!

Seeing Ferris Bueller as an old man was jarring though.

I just rewatched sicario this week as well. It's literally a perfect movie. It doesn't give you all the answers you're seeking, leaves you wanting more and everything was done at the highest level.

It's just a shame Day of Soldado was such a starkly different feel, there was so much potential to be had there.
