Happy to hear that Sutter feels well enough for one last crack at the NHL. Long Covid is a tough to manage, let alone at an elite athlete level.

Is that the job Sutter is applying for?

En contraire, it's more than possible. In fact, it's probable.
And already talking about the second round of next year's playoffs is absolutely going to backfire.
I smell a sophomore slump for Skinner incoming.

Well...and as good as the wonder twins are, and I say this every year seemingly, you have to think that at some point teams will adjust to them on the Powerplay and that those heavy minutes are eventually going to catch up to them.

They are on for a lot of minutes but those aren't necessarily hard minutes. There is a lot of coasting for their top two players, so that lessens the impact of their ice-time.
The problem with their powerplay is you end up with defenceman playing one-on-one with McDavid or you overload that side leaving Draisaitl open for his one-timer. I think minimizing penalties, winning that first faceoff, and working to avoid their entry into the zone is probably your best bet against their powerplay.

I would confidently say that McDavid ran out of gas in the playoffs. And to a lesser extent Leon (mostly in the last few games vs vegas).
There was absolutely no reason to play McDavid as much as they did in the regular season, since they were making the playoffs even if they cut his ice time by 3-5 minutes nightly.
They're idiotic. It's like they wanted 160 McPoints more than success in the playoffs.
Those are perennial loser priorities.
And those will go down as McDavids accomplishments, not the Oilers', and McDavid most certainly won't be an Oiler for life. So joke's on them.

Have you seen McDavid by the All-Star Break? He looks like a Zombie who took up Meth but it was laced with Fentanyl.
Death warmed over.

Edmonton is No Good X: Up and Down Like a Toilet Seat
It will be kind of funny if this is the year that the oilers catch the injury bug. Unlike some other teams, the oilers could not weather losing any of their top guys for extended periods of time. Imagine losing both Draisaitl and McDavid at the same time for like two months… that’s a lottery team for sure. It would be yet another year off of their contracts… one step closer to them moving on to NY/LA.

They need a "McDrai Re-sign-O-Meter" for the upcoming season, since throwing out guesstimate percentages has become the new thing.
That way we can watch it dip after a lengthy losing streak when the jerseys and fire Woody articles start coming out.

Making McDavid CEO was a significant sign that they’ve brainwashed him well enough to stick around for life. He’ll take his next 8x$15M. Then he’ll do a playing retirement deal 4x$9.7M. Then after he’s done playing it’s straight upstairs to focus 100% on the CEO role. Well, 90%. 10% is reserved for reffing.

Gretzky was a phenomenal player, who was breaking records left and right. He also was on very good teams that won a lot of cups. The problem the oilers are having is that they can't connect that the cups were because of those factors together (generational player + complete roster), not that those factors were because of the cups. So they are working from a place of "If McDavid wins all the awards and breaks all the records, then that will be just like Gretzky, and since Gretzky won cups then McDavid for sure will which will mean we have a complete roster!"
And that's how you take a generational player, and a bonafied franchise player, and instead of building a team that uses that to be a multiple cup winner or runner up year in and year out, you build a hodgepodge of overhyped trash and run the team so poorly that it almost seems to be trying to not win anything.

I think their problem is that they thought by landing McDavid that they were destined to repeat the 80s and that it would go the same way.
But yeah, the rest of the roster is junk by comparison. But that means you can't push the mcdrai button repeatedly every night and not expect to see their output wane a bit after 82 games. Of course they're going to say they can handle it, but the Oilers staff are also weak, bumbling enablers and don't know how to manage a team for success.
Other thing is that they probably think they're entitled to every piece of hardware and can't stand the idea of tempering McDavid totals to have a guy that fresh in the postseason and snorting lines and crushing monsters to power through another night pushing 30 minutes.
They could start by having an actual 2nd PP unit of separate players lol (smh).
