You can't compare the two. The Springs is a million times better than the Resort course.

Yeah, the Springs is a great course, well maintained and just run better (despite it having the same owner). It has one of the best public practice facilities I know of. It's walkable as well, which is a bonus. I'd say it's also one of the fairer courses as far as challenges go. No gimmick holes, but not too easy either. The clubhouse as well as the 17th and 18th tees have a spectacular view of the river valley.
The Resort course is just to get out and play at a cheaper rate. It's not walkable though, and you hit up or down a hill constantly. It's also about 300 yards shorter.
EDIT: I dunno if it's availabel still but you can buy a flex card for the two courses that you load with money and if you use that you get 20% off fees. I don't know if there's a minimum though.

Just shot a 48-38: 86. Golf is so funny.
I've never broke 80 so a 38 back 9 was as good as I've played. Everything was working, hopefully a sign of things to come.

Golf really is funny.
The closest I've came to breaking 80 was shooting 81 twice on my former local par 72 track. Both times I had a snowman on the tail end of my scorecard. I'm sure it was mental breakdowns at that point, getting hyped at the possibility of shooting a 77-78 round.
Life and changes made it hard to golf the last 5 years. Diving back into it hard now, last few round have been just under 90.
What's funny, the rounds where I came close to breaking 80 didn't feel all that different from 85s, which is what I'd normally score.
Maybe in a way the hiatus was good? Trying to rebuild a simpler, more repeatable swing and thinking about course management more.
Trust the process?

Also, after much nagging, getting the wife a set of clubs, and dragging her out to the range (she's also a poor lefty like myself) she got bit by the golf bug. She's all about hitting up the range now. First trip she went from 20 yard worm burner shots (but on line) to hitting clean irons. All on line. She's a good woman, Imma keep her around.

Thoughts and prayers to your golf budget! I say that (in jest) as someone who encountered the same "good fortune". And while it is awesome to have an activity you can do together, and it's seriously fun for me, everything just doubled in cost!

Heading to Cape Breton to play Cabot Cliffs and Links in a few weeks. Really looking forward to the trip. Anyone have any suggestions for restaurants or things to do in the area and Halifax?

Did that pilgrimage in 2022. Make sure to get down to the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou in time for their live music. Awesome food and great atmosphere.
Where are you staying? Supremely jealous, what a trip that was.

It was nice before Covid when there was a bunch of golf options in the $70 - $90 range including cart. It seems almost every half decent course is $100-$140 now. I mostly just do city courses because of it, but it gets a little repetitive.
We played Heritage point the other week and their freaking twilight rate was $100 + $30 cart.

The prices around the city are pretty wild. Tough to find under $100 walking on a weekday anymore. I play quite a few rounds at Delacour which is $69 (nice) all day every day and Blue Devil when I’m with someone who has a play golf Calgary card and can get me 10% off. Comes in around $90.
Elbow Springs. River spirit, valley ridge, which are all fairly close to me, are over $100 weekdays and around $125 weekends. Craziness.

I kinda don't want to say it, but... this is why you do VIP Golf.
River spirit? 72 with a cart weekdays. Valley ridge? 76. And those aren't the best deals. I played Speargrass today, it was 75 bucks and it's 50 on weekdays with a cart. Redwood is 60 to walk. Canal at Delacour, 59 with cart. Sirocco, 75 w cart, Heritage point 80, Inglewood 57 walking, etc.

Yah VIP would be nice but doesn’t work for someone like me. Their weekend and late day rates aren’t worth it.
What’s with speargrass? I played it on Wednesday as I have a tourney coming up where it’s one of the courses and I never played it before. From all the talk I hear about it I thought it would be really great. But it was a pretty boring round. Basic holes and slow greens. Not to mention a long drive. Not sure I’ll be back.

Staying at the resort for 2 nights. When comparing it to courses such as Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass etc its actually reasonable, especially in CAD. I will update with pics when I get back!

I would agree. I found it nothing special for the long drive out of the city.

You found the greens at speargrass slow? I have no idea how that's possible; they were super fast and true yesterday.
Calling the course overall boring is like... do you just love gimmicky weird holes? Because it's a very well laid out course, 3/3/3 on both nines, very fair but with challenging bunker placement and the native grass is roughly the right amount of punishing. And then the last few holes are up there with anything in the province, including the mountain courses, in terms of how picturesque they are. I dunno; if you're bored with that course I'd say just go play Springbank.

Yeah, I get that. I was a VIP Golf member for years before I spent 5 summers in the golf industry. Great program if you play enough.
I’ve played 16 rounds and hit the range twice this year and spent $1400. I think VIP golf costs 600 so at $50/round and $600 for vip I would’ve been in the same spot. More than $50/round and I’m not quite getting value out of VIP yet.
If I were playing 25+ rounds I’d definitely be getting VIP but it just doesn’t quite make sense at 15-20 rounds.

I guess I chose now to just entirely forget how to play golf. Club championships and I couldn’t get within a dozen strokes of my index. Used my entire index in one hole, which could be the absolute worst hole I’ve ever had. Great timing.

I feel your pain, brother! We did a winter club championship in April and I blew my handicap in the first three holes. The three guys I was playing with were hitting it down the middle, hitting fairways and greens, while I was all over the golf course. It was so bad I just wanted to get out of the way and let the other guys play golf. It was a long day of scrambling and just trying to grind things out. We all have them and just need to learn from them.
So, what's everyone's favorite tournament format? I used to love alternate shot but I just finished up playing a really interesting four-day event. You have to play a mandatory around from the reds (5800), a round from the whites (6500), and a round from the blacks (7300), and then your final round you get to choose which tees you play from, all final scores handicap adjusted. Was really fun and a format I'd play again in a heartbeat!

I have a 3 day charity tournament starting Friday in Victoria.
Day 1: 2 vs 2 scramble.
Day 2: 1 on 1 Ryder Cup matchplay. About 60-70 golfers total, brown guys vs white/other guys
Day 3: 4 man scramble
Different course each day and all for charity. Definitely my favourite golf weekend of the year.
