Regarding the Ducks comment - I don't think summer performance would normally be a deciding factor in holding back a trade, unless injuries are in play. If that’s the case, it screams Anaheim wanting to get a better look at how Zary has healed and progressed over the summer. Outside of the McTavish rumors, other Anaheim players who might fit CC's criteria are Nesterenko and Colangelo. That said, those two seem like a clear downgrade from Zary, so a trade involving just them and prospects/picks would seem both improbable and likely a bad move for Calgary.
IMO, it does feel like things are pointing toward Zary being part of a larger package to get someone from Anaheim.

He just needs to stay healthy.
He looked like an NHLer in camp last year and even early in the season before he got hurt.
Then he looked passive at times in the AHL like he was playing not to get hurt.
But Pospisil said he put on 7kg of muscle so far this offseason which is pretty crazy. If he can play less passive and stay healthy I think there is a good player there.

I bet we eventually see a McTavish for Zary plus pieces on either side to balance things out...
And then 5yrs from now Zary is the better of the two because that feels like Flames luck.

I just don’t see why the Ducks do that trade unless they think Zary will be a better winger than McTavish for some reason.

I wouldn't be fussed about it. I expect the situation is static.
1) Conroy set a price
2) Other GMs have tried to come in below that price (Bertucci + 2nd = LOL)
3) Now we wait to see which GM gets hungry enough to meet the price
There are a pile of teams that could use Andersson. Some of them need Andersson to help them improve their regular season results and get into the playoffs and some of them need a boost to their playoff results to try and put them over the top.
It is just going to come down to which GM realizes that CC will re-sign Andersson and take the asset off the block if no one meets his price.

It’s a fair question. I think the Ducks consider the trade if they’re confident in their current center depth and feel that Zary’s projected contract and playing style / position are a better fit for their roster structure and cap strategy. They may view him as a lower-risk, potentially smarter player investment.
The Flames might be more willing to take a gamble on McTavish’s upside, even if it means committing to a higher salary or longer term.

That's a very optimistic take on things. The other side is that Andersson is coming off a pretty poor year, statically (yes, likely due to playing through injuries but his results will factor in to teams desires, still), will require a huge deal that will take him through the back half of his career in his 30's, AND it's now known that he has little desire to sign anywhere but a select few places.
My read on the situation (and we're all just guessing) is that Andersson isn't as valued as many on here think, and Conroy has really only had 2 or 3 teams seriously interested due to those being the only teams that Andersson will sign with. The well has dried up without a deal.
Now we play him this season, hope he plays injury free and puts up good numbers and simply trade him as a rental before or at the deadline with full retention. Hope for a first and some middling prospect and move on.

This is why I still have him as my third best prospect (behind only Parekh and Reschny). The way he played last preseason and up until he got hurt was aggressive and physical. He looked like a more talented and taller Pospisil.
He just took that reverse hit that probably killed his confidence because his body wasn't yet big enough for that style. If he's really that much bigger already and plays the style he played before the injury last year, and balances it out a little more to protect himself from stupidity, he could be a serious beast.

I think it is as simple as there is no urgency on Aug 5th to make a deal. A GM that panics and makes a trade is how you end up trading Hall for Larsson. This is almost exactly the same as the Lindholm situation. Flames internally know right now that they intend to trade him and are saying all the same things they did with Lindholm. Want to sign him, okay with him starting the season.
Pretty obvious that CC has a set price and isn't going to Peter Chiarelli this in the middle of the summer.

Prediction: Flames keep Andersson on the roster to await better offers, Andersson suffers a long-term injury- thus torpedoing any trade value that he may have had. That is our luck.

Having a hard time figuring out who the Frost equivalent would be. Minty seems the most logical. I hope it's not Troy Terry.
It seems like the Ducks didn't think Minty earned a full time roster spot last season, so perhaps that's part of wanting to evaluate his summer.
Zary for Minty?
Doesn't really address a gap for the Flames. But I like Minty overall.
And yes this Minty thing will be annoying. If not already.

This is my biggest fear.
We’ve just always had #### luck in general, and he got badly injured last year…

Nah, Andersson is going to start the season the same way he did last season. With 4 goals, 10 points, and a +6 in the first 8 games. Which will lead to either DAL or CAR panicking and sending us an absolute haul.

We have our price and we're sticking to it is making me remember how the Cammalleri situation played out. That would be a shame.

It should remind you of how the Lindholm situation played out, since that was much more recent and the same GM.

The lost asset in that case was a 3rd.
You have to balance that against not earning a reputation for being someone other GMs can force into taking their price and only their price.
