Started believing their own press the last 10 days that they just had to show up and they'd put up 11 runs again.

Mariners are hot now too.
Could catch the Yanks if we sweep our series and it may not be enough.
Not good. At least it hopefully means the end of Montoya.

This is starting to get that heartbreaking feeling. Lots of old patterns showing up the last 5 games.
Need to win 6 of the last 8. Probably even 7.
I've been trying to stay even keeled about Springer and trusting that he's hurt. But he has been bloody awful for a month now. And when you take out his 2.5 week hot stretch his numbers have been abysmal. Not what you'd expect for 25 million. (But hopefully get hot and shut me up).

Why are people thinking the end of Montoya? Was this Jays team supposed to be a playoff team at this point in the build? I may be mistaken but I seem to recall most fans and experts having this as another development year, and to contend for playoffs starting 2022?

Except they did contend for the playoffs. And Montoyo was not the manager they needed.
Next year they will be expected to contend, so bringing him back would be a massive mistake.

That was the original prognostication, yes. Back in 2017/2018, that was the year being tossed about.
So is the glass half full? We are ahead of our projection and all of this is gravy?
Or half empty? This could be a miss of historic proportions that I think people are starting to realize. We have a top 2 MVP (Vlad) a top 5 MVP (Semien) another couple of top 10 MVP’s most likely (Bichette & Hernandez) with Gurriel having a career year.
We have the Cy Young front runner (#2 at worst) with Ray
We have a top 10 Cy Young in Berrios
We have a possible ROY with Manoah
Matz having a career year
We have a historic run differential.
How can we miss?
Montoyo… that’s how we miss.

+ One of the best closers in the game right now.
Maybe the team needs a little more experience. Seasons not over yet though, Jays still hold their own fate... not sure they can sweep the Yanks 2 series in a row though. Outside of that a lot of dominos have to fall right

I really hate to sound skeptical, but this year so much came together suddenly (as you've highlighted), that it really angers me that the bullpen has been so bad throughout. Will everything come together next year again? That I'm skeptical of because of the mental letdown. One of Ray or Semien are gone and the team has to get over whomever it is to come back again. Montoyo is to blame for the pitching decisions early in the year as that has been bad, but if I'm giving credit as well he deserves some for the positives that have come out. The guy is truly best suited as an assistant manager, but who else would the team bring in who the players respect? It's not that tricky, I just don't know who's good and bad these days in the MLB.

I really doubt Montoya is going anywhere.
The club achieved more than anyone thought this year, the injuries (bullpen) have been brutal, and the team already picked up their option on his contract for next year IIRC.
Unless Sparky Anderson comes back from the dead, it would be hard to see them doing anything at that position.

Jays playing the O's and the Yanks playing the Rays to finish the season.
Just need to be roughly tied with the Yanks going into those last series' and it might work out still.
Just sucks that the ####ing Mariners had to get hot again and muddy up the waters.
I can't believe how fast the worm turned again. Was it like a week ago the Jays held WC#1?
Now they're 3 games behind WC#1 and 2 games behind WC#2?
Unbelievable.

The Mariners have another series with the As upcoming. Time for a little payback from Oakland.

Stanton just hit a grand slam to put the Yankees up 5-2 in the 8th. The Jays will need to win 7 of 8 to get in. And that includes a sweep of the Yanks.

That's not likely true.
If they win tonight, they will be 2 back of both the Red Sox and the Yankees. They only need to catch one of them. And it isn't likely to take an 7-1 record for that to happen.
But it sure wouldn't hurt!

Ray I think is worn out as he’s lost a couple ticks on his fastball the last couple starts. 93-95 instead of 95-97.
