It’s a great track. While there isn’t much civilization around I love that area. The lake and hiking and everything is amazing.

Just got back last week from doing a little trip.
Pine Hills - What a qwerky course. Beautiful scenery and in quite good shape, but need to know your distances for some holes. Only issue there was that there was no sand in the bunkers so it was like hitting on concrete
Olds - Went there as friend is the pro and course is in great shape. Small town course vibe, but enough different holes to not constantly hit driver off the tee that we had some fun
Sundre - Best course we did of the 3. In fantastic shape and just a treat to play. Course was not overly busy and had a blast that day

Back to the usual high 80’s today. Hit 0/14 fairways and only 4/18 greens and shot an 89 today at River Spirit. One bad hole and a couple wayward tee shots that resulted in doubles, otherwise the game looked alright. 44-45-89.

Golf is incredible. I shot 36 on my front 9 last week and was in the zone, 100%. The "new" group ahead of us was combative with the city course marshal which is ridiculous.
They mocked him (marshal told us), said they paid their money and can go any speed they wish. We waited 6-15 minutes on every shot and my awesome round was ruined. I can endure some waits, but we all have our limits as golfers where you're just out of it with slow play.
I shot 80 which was my third best round of my life and yet I was tossing clubs (twice) and just right out of the game because of a 5.75 hour round. Almost had a confrontation in the parking lot because we were just giving it to them about slow play as we got to our vehicles.

^ that “I paid, so I can do whatever I want” has to be routed out from the game. I just think it’s so inconsiderate, and so unnecessary. You paid but you don’t just get to inconvenience everyone else because of that.

I'd like to see the Marshalls have some actual power when it comes to slow play. When I was a kid they would tell you the group behind is playing through, or pick up your ball and go to the next hole. You just did what they told you to do.
Now they just drive around saying 'pick up the pace, pick up the pace' and nobody cares. Give the power back to the marshalls!

Unfortunately to most people they lost that power when the cost went up so extraordinarily.

I am awful with controlling my play when the pacing is off.
Either a slow group in front of me, or a slow player with me that makes me self conscious about our pace to the point where I rush my putts and lose all focus.
This is one of my biggest mental blocks in golf.

The marshals on private/semi privates are a little tougher. And the players are more considerate in general. Kick 'em off and give them their $30 back.

We don't even have marshalls on our course, but a sub 4 hour round is expected and respected. Sometimes you end up around 4:10 or 4:15 absolute max.
Off to play UBC today and Northview Friday. We're closed this week, hosting the Canadian Jr Girls championship, so making the public rounds.

I played the Radium Resort course last week. We waited sometimes (5 minutes max) and still finished sub 4 hours.

In the last month I played both Heritage pointe and Kananaskis in 5+ hour rounds. Both were brutal rounds. Marshals didn’t do anything.
Every other round (8 ish) has been sub 4:15 thankfully. I hate slow golf and would rather just not play.

Kananaskis is always slow. It's too bad because otherwise it's the best course around here to play IMO. I guess it's the tourists who are (a) bad and (b) uneducated. It's also pretty easy to lose a ball and people spend way too much time looking.

I think a lot of casual golfers see those scenic courses as an "event", not a standard round of golf. They think, we're driving out to the mountains, it's beautiful, let's soak it in and enjoy the experience, which turns into multiple balls played on neat/picturesque par 3's, lots of stopping to take pictures as they approach scenic areas instead of going to the ball and getting ready to shoot, etc.

The views are good there but I don’t think it’s worth the drive unless someone else is paying.

Probably. Yet I also take pics at Kananaskis (or Grey Wolf or in Hawaii or AZ) but in a 4some there's plenty of time to do that. Just be ready to play when you are up. It's not like my group is some grim band of hard core "get through this" guys.
We do note when there's a group behind us as well and pick up the pace if we think we are at all slow.

For sure, but you seem like a courteous golfer, many do the same as you but at a much slower pace (the last time we were there a four some slowly got together for a selfie as a group at the green of a par 3 before anyone went to their balls to putt). Sure it's only a minute or two, but it's a bunch of little moments like that that lead to an extra 20 minutes, then you have 6 groups at any given time in the day acting like that and there's your 5+ hour rounds for everyone.

How did you like the Radium course? Have you also played the Springs course? I see the Springs course is a bit more expensive and was wondering why. Heading that way next week. Thanks.
