I appreciate well built teams, I don't really have an appreciation for money mostly being the driving force behind strength.

I hear you but IMO that is a different issue. And i’d argue that teams spending big on stars have the bigger advantage in shorter series, but obviously randomness comes into it then to a greater degree.
Force these bottom teams to start spending money? Count me in. Have a salary floor spread over a few seasons maybe. But having more demand in the playoffs just allows for more randomness, it doesn’t fix the spending disparity.
I prefer a baseball season over a baseball tournament always. Which IMO is not the same for sports like hockey or basketball.

Sounds like Gurriel's hand x rays came back negative. He did get a couple stitches though apparently.

Sigh. Just finished the game on tape delay.
Just sigh.
Hope Gurriel is ok.
Needing a sweep against the Yankees is a very Jays thing to do.

When the Jays are in a tight spot, like they were today early in the game with no outs and a man at 1st and 3rd, and it's clear their starter doesn't have it, they really should be looking right now to use Cimber or someone as good to get them out of that situation. Not to harp too much on today's game, but Cimber is playing a meaningless inning. They don't have that surefire guy, but I'd still like to pull a starter who doesn't have it for a near closer or even a closer if need be, between now and end of season. You have to stay in it before there's even a closer situation.

^^^ @fleury
Agree with that approach. Or what I've been a big fan of is having a 'sixth' starter in the bullpen that could give you 3 or 4 inning on those nights that the starter doesn't have it.

Totally agree with the sixth starter. Right now they have about three starters consistent. So getting that sixth in the next couple weeks will be tough, though Pearson is best suited for it.

Am I the only one that won't be disappointed if the Jays miss the playoffs.
So the team can fire Montoyo for failing with a great lineup so we can actually truly move forward next year and beyond.

Can anyone explain why Springer hasnt at least been moved to about the 7 spot in the order? I get them keeping him in to work through it but
Last 7 games
.071 avg
.295 OPS
Keep him in, sure.... but get him down the order.

The Jays missing the playoffs is no guarantee Montoyo gets canned anyways.
I'm going to very disappointed if they miss now. I was re-signed to them missing 3.5 weeks ago. Then they swept Oakland, NYY and started the month 16-4 which put them into the 1st wild card spot.
It's going to be a massive kick in the balls if they choke now.

Also, just wanted to say that relievers suck.
It blows my mind how volatile and unpredictable they are most of the time.
Kimbrel for example, was untouchable with Cubs. He's sucked big time since traded to the White Sox.
Been waiting all year for Merryweather to come back, now he's back and he's been terrible lol.
I don't envy pitchers, especially relievers.

Springer in the field tonight.
And Espanol is back.
Also, random comment: Joe Siddell is great.
