Thank goodness for this snow!
We were hurting for a good soak before grass starts to grow.

I do not hold to that. I give out free advice, because I'd rather someone make an informed decision than be scared by the fee, make a mistake and create a bigger problem to be fixed later.

This is why you don't take off your winter tires before May. What an asshat

Bold of you to think they ever had winter tires on.

If you're going to half-ass those things, at least be a smart half-asser.
Know that your car is a fishtailing-prone coffin on wheels and merge as gingerly as you can.
Guy just cut across at an insane angle 10 feet in front of that semi. Then was too heavy on the breaks as soon as they began to swerve.
Result is hardly surprising.

They didn't cut in at a sharp angle, they moved slowly, and when his front left hit the crud, it slowed that wheel, which caused increased resistance, like having a flat tire. Because this driver was in two clear tracks, they should have anticipated the pull that was about to occur, They didn't, and the car then veered sharply.
This is a good example of this effect happening, and one many drivers don't know or consider. If you do have to cut across a snow ridge, you want to do it smoothly, but decisively so you aren't on it long. And be ready for the pull. Often when you see a car go into the ditch on the highway it's because they slightly dip a wheel on the shoulder, and just get dragged off the road.

I've worked at a few places like that. Can concur.

There are a lot of strugglers on Calgary roads that are white knuckling in ideal conditions so it's not overly surprising that plenty of them will not be able to perform panic maneuvers.

Rain yes
Snow no
Snow at this time of the year should be saved for the mountains only

Snow is nicer than rain. Brightens everything up and covers the gross brown grass and gravel that make Calgary so ugly in the spring.

At this time of the year, it almost turns immediately into slush and muck and turns everything gray/brown (as it is right now).
Would much prefer the rain and no more snow on my lawn which is plagued with snow mold.

Yeah deff rain over snow, less treacherous on the roads too. Including the summer tires crew who will drive like it's an ice rink if they see any amount of snow falling.
Plus just the moods it puts people in: rain seems to make people sleepy and a little down. Snow, especially out of season like this, just ###### everyone off lol. Dealing with a town full of mostly grumpy people when you're out running errands, no bueno.

I, for one, have NOT taken my winter tires off yet so I am not to blame for this crap.
But I did contemplate booking the tire swap and detailing appointment for a date before May. Is that all it takes now?

Nor I.
I do zero vehicle changes or maintenance until after May long. Born and raised in Calgary. Everyone knows that.
You think this will be the last one? Come on now...
