Yeah but do you think that was because of the IMAX or just the filmmaking? I felt that way too in not 70mm in an old IMAX with a screen not much bigger than a newer AVX. I’m not saying it was a bad experience, just that I think you’ll feel that way regardless. I

The scale was part of it, but I think it being on film and digital really added a tactile warmth to the picture and made the color pop.

I'd been tempted too, but I found from the trailer that the four voices for the Turtles just grated on my ears like nails on a chalkboard. Giving that one a pass.

Recommend (or don't) a movie thread v2
Despite how badly panned “Freddy Got Fingered” was when it first came out, it has aged really well. It should be considered a cult classic.

Unless “Heat” has a scene with Al Pacino enrobed in a deer carcass, whispering, “Now *I* am stinky. Now *I* am stinky”, then I don’t see what there is to even enjoy about it.

I watched the original War of the World's for the first time, thought it was pretty good given its 70 years old. I still much prefer Independence Day or the Spielberg War of the World's, but it was interesting watching the original and seeing how much it influenced Independence Day.

If you actually understand what 'Freddy Got Fingered' is then you might get some chuckles out of it, but if you watch it as purely a film it is horrible.

We watched Black Dynamite (2009) a couple weekends again.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1190536/
This one one of the funniest films I've seen. Highly recommend it.
It's a great spoof on Blackplotation films and it knows exactly what it is.

It is the bastard lovechild of Andy Kaufman and Farrelly Brothers.

Its essentially a 'F You' to Hollywood and mainstream studios.
Kind of apropos at the moment.

Went to Chinook theatre last night to watch Barbie. First of all, the film is actually pretty good. For the first 10 minutes I thought it was going to be some girly lollypop film. But it was actually pretty fun for most of it. It had the look of a low budget film, but actually looked great. The casting was excellent. The dialogue funny. Very pleasantly surprised how good it was. Wasn't sure how the vibrating chairs would work with it, but it worked well enough.
But boy oh boy, Chinook theatre has really gone downhill. Shoutout to management who thought it would be a good idea to close half the snack tills and all the food desks so that the popcorn lines were almost out the door. They ran out of damn nachos. Not that I was going to have any...but still.
Film was good. To bad the venue did it's best to ruin it.

Saw TMNT Today at Chinook in the 4DX seats. It was a ton of fun and the movie was amazing. Really enjoyed it.
And Chinook was still outta nachos

Went to see Oppenheimer 70mm IMAX at Chinook tonight. Went a bit long, but enjoyable overall.
And speaking about conditions, they had no bottled water. Like none. This includes the one vending machine that had water siting inside of it, but was out of order.
But the escalators worked, so there is that.

Chinook sells coke products and coke is on strike so they are having a hard time getting their Dasani bottles.

Watched 1990s Nightbreed on Tubi. It was based on Clive Barker's short story Cabal. I wanted to see all the Calgary and Alberta references again. There are a few Calgary mentions and even a clip of Ed Whalen calling a Flames game.
Anyway, don't watch it. bad movie. Maybe the novella is worth the read?

Which version was it? I have the director’s cut on bluray, and it’s a better film.

It was the director's cut. I'd seen the original when it first was released. Thought it might be worth a revisit.
