So if I have a pretty simple tax return (basically just a T4) but I have some charitable donation slips, I HAVE to use the "deluxe" version of Turbotax ($20.99) and not the free one, right?

That is lame.

There are free programs that do the same thing. I just used Wealthsimple's website this year and it worked well

Wealthsimple tax is pretty damn impressive for a pay-what-you-want platform.

Ugh, thanks guys. Just realized I'm due this year for a colonoscopy. I've had five, and have failed the prep on two of them. Last time they had me drink two of those jugs of saccharine pineapple ####, plus ducolax. It's just brutal. Now I'm going to be depressed for the rest of the year until I get a letter or phone call with my appointment date.

We had a guy show up an hour late on Monday allegedly thanks to the time change... He’s in his 20’s and technologically capable… I don’t understand how that actually happens. I thought it was a bad joke but he was serious.

Out of sight, out of mind. I wouldn't even think about it until you get within a few weeks of the date. Then I would get depressed.

Westjet sent me an ad today for a sale offering Westjet dollars at a discount. I think, "I fly Westet pretty often, if they're offering discounted westjet dollars I'll check it out." The discount is off the regular price of buying westjet dollars, which is apparently $2 CAD for every westjet dollar. So now they're on sale at the low price of $1.30 CAD for every westjet dollar. Seems like either a waste of an email or they're hoping to prey on seniors who don't read the details like the phone scams or something. The best theoretical use of westjet dollars is member exclusive fares, which are nowhere near a 30% discount.

Seniors in parking lots that walk along the exact paths that vehicles take as they putter towards the store.

^Both of my parents do this, particularly in winter, because the tracks left by cars are the least slippery paths.

I dunno about old people, but in this current sloppy road and sidewalk conditions , I am walking where I am least likely to be drenched by a car driving through a puddle.

#### cars. If you don’t want people walking in the middle of the parking lot, build a lot with actual paths between the cars. Otherwise, enjoy waiting while I walk.

I have people that drive on my sidewalk, so the circle of life is complete.

They must think the community mailbox is a Tim Hortons window or something.

I guess we’re supposed to walk right behind the parked cars, so we can get nailed by somebody backing out, not paying attention.

Simple Tax is way better than Turbo Tax. I use to donate to them when they were independent and had good privacy rules. When they got bought out I pouted for a year, but that just reminded me how much TurboTax sucks in comparison, so I went back last year. Did my my taxes again last night and gave them nothing.

I wish the government just made an excel sheet of all the actual tax forms. It’s so much easier just to go through line by line then answer questions which then try to get the right forms for you. Way easier to miss deductions.

Studio tax is pretty close to this. Most of the forms you fill out directly on a screen that's even the same light blue colour as the old paper books. Calculation fields are done for you automatically, and they will still auto-fill from CRA if you want.

I switched years ago when TurboTax was calculating depreciation incorrectly on a rental property and support couldn't fix it.

This time of year is where I'm glad I married an accountant. I haven't done my own taxes for many years

I like studiotax also, it auto-fills from cra previous years pensions and cost is negligible.
