Pele's a goofball. He works for FIFA and really should be neutral.
He picks Spain, England, Brazil or an African team every time.

Are you insane?

Italian soccer hooliganism is so rampant and violent that they once had to close the doors to the fans and play a part of their season in empty stadiums because the fans were killing each other and the police!

Sorry guys I should have stated that better, I meant on the National Team level.

On the club level it can be really bad and many teams in every league have their Ultra's that cause issues. But on the National team level you rarely see travelling Italian fans causing issues, but yeah domestically the violence can be rampant in those small Italian cities.

But on the National Team level, at international tournaments, you rarely see Italian National team fans causing major issues. However on a whole you can say that about most team's fans on the national team level, as they usually see to be more calm.

Fair enough, violence and incidents at international events have become relatively non-existent compared to a couple decades ago. The imposition of strictly enforced travel bans has been a big step. There's still issues, and Italian fans are certainly involved in them (as well as others), but in general hooliganism has become a minor concern at international events.

Domestically I've never seen anything like what happens in Italy. Having been to matches in England, Italy and Spain I never felt any fear, or witnessed violence, until I set foot at a match in Italy. It was like being in a video of the early 80's violence that people point to when they want to condemn the British, except it was 2006. The ITalian authorities have taken steps, but to be honest I don't think they actually care to fully follow through. Violence at matches in most European nations is incredibly rare, the same can't be said in Italy.

Yeah the problem in the Italian league is that alot of these teams are in small cities where a lot of the fans are a little more poor and of a lower class.

The games in the Sicilian cities (which boiled over in 2007) can be absolutely terrible in terms of violence and are probably the worst example of violence.

Although the small cities do not explain all the violence as can be seen through the Roma and Lazio "Ultras" whom are probably some of the most violent fans in the world.

Violence in Italy on the domestic level is a huge issue, but surprisingly this rarely seems to spread abroad when Italian teams travel. Most of the issues seem to happen during Derby's.

Hopefully we don't see any violence from any of the teams involved at this years World Cup.

Argentina has to be at the top of the list for divers. Their Under 20 semifinal against Chile in 2007 is particularly frustrating. Such talent, such divers.

I remember that match in Toronto. When the ref gave the Chilean guy a red card, he ripped the red card out of the refs hand!

My finalist predictions are exactly the same as Pele: Brazil vs. Spain *gulp*

We should make a CP league anyone interested? Picking ends tonight.

www.myofficepool.ca seems to have one of the best free pool sites around, and it's easy to use. I am in another pool there, but if somebody made up a CP league I would join.

Hehe. Getting thanks from United and Canucks fans. It feels kinda dirty!

It's so weird that united and Diane Phaneuf are on my side of things while Locke is an ignorant German lover! Bah!

The World cup is a great leveler.

Anyone else feeling huge anticipation for this thing to get started? I'm feeling anxious beyond belief right now........... and at my age that's pretty ridiculous.

Come on England!

If it shakes down how I predict it would be the most amazing quarter finals:

Netherlands vs Brazil
France vs England (awesome)
Argentina vs Germany
Italy vs Spain (also awesome)

That quarter final could be the nail in the coffin of the Euro zone.

Way to go out on a limb

There always seems to be a 'minor' European that makes the quarters like Ukraine, Croatia, Turkey.

I predict Denmark will top the Dutch's group.
And the Slovenians to beat the English

What? England has the worst play style out of all the superpower nations. All they do is play long-ball after long-ball. Not only does it not work, but it's pretty brutal technically. Italy on the other hand plays defense brilliantly. If all you are looking for is goals, then perhaps it is not exciting, but if you understand the game from a defenseman's perspective, it really is something amazing to watch. Long live Catenaccio!!

I think that either Brazil or Spain will finish 2nd in their group, hopefully Brazil as it would move them out of the top bracket

setting up a round of 16 matchup between Brazil and Spain
