Heresay has it that the Lioins think their current Left Tackle isn't that bad a player. That said, if there is an upgrade available and I think Okung is, than take him move the other guy over to the right side and try to keep Stafford upright for 16 games. Unlike Carr....I think Stafford does have what it takes to be a very effective QB so they should protect him. They also play in a Division where they'll face Julius Peppers and Jared Allen twice a season, as well as Dom Capers schemes.
If I'm Detroit I'm realistic to know I'm not winning now in that Division, and by getting help on the O-Line I keep Stafford protected so that a year or two down the road he's around when the chance is there. You can get defensive help later in the draft or next year.

Suddenly the head office in SF in unsettled.
There was a sudden meeting between the GM, Scott Mcloughan and 49ers upper management yesterday. After the meeting some files were removed from the GM's office. John York (team owner) was in London doing prep work for the regular season game scheduled there but is now scheduled to fly back directly to SF instead of stopping at his home in Ohio.
Today Mcloughan's agent says the GM is not stepping down, but something suddenly came up.

The Lions have a ton of holes on their team and can pick up effective Offensive Linemen in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
No reason to reach for a guy like Okung who doesn't appear to be a difference maker on the line. Especially when the rest of the line will still be fairly weak.
I would prefer they take the best player available draft for need later in the draft and pick a top OL next year when they draft in the top 5 again.

Further update on the 49ers:
Quote:
An NFL source with knowledge of the 49ers’ situation said this morning that the team is operating as if Scot McCloughan no longer is the GM.
There’s no definitive word on his potential departure–first reported by Matt Maiocco last night–but the 49ers’ half-day silence on the issue is speaking loud and clear.
McCloughan is either out as GM or is about to be out.
Whether he and Jed York call it a resignation, a firing, or something else… that’s mostly just semantics at this point.

So it is starting to leak out that McCloughan is going through a divorce. Adam Schefter is saying the Niners are calling it a leave of absence.
Apparently almost all of McCloughan's work for the draft is film work and he has completed it and the draft board is pretty much set. Coach Singletary is interviewing the potential draft choices to gauge their football desire and McCloughan isn't involved in that.

Something not quite right with this SF story IMO. He is leaving because he is going through a divorce?? Really?
IMO that may be the company line for now, but no doubt there must be something more to it...perhaps the reason he is getting divorced?

Andrews was/is a head case. there are a tonne a rumors floating around that he just basically gave up on football. Never any real commitment in any of his rehabs and a serious lack of work ethic.
He had the talent and the abilities to be one of the best. Unfortunately heart means a lot in sports and he had very little.
Eagles also released Curtis and Howard. Trade for and signed Tapp from Seattle.

Still no official word from 49ers brass.

Very happy to hear this. Curtis is irrelevant and is probably the least clutch player on the team. The Eagles probably make it to the Super Bowl two years ago if the guy could catch a pass.

Andrews has been battling depression now for quite a while. I don't know so much about commitment as serious personal issues. Hope he can get himself back together.

Well, with Jackson as the number one and Maclin having an excellent rookie year the writing was on the wall. You really have to like the Eagles' top three with Avant included in there. Throw in Celek and Ingram and the passing game looks very promising.
If Bell stays the running game looks very good as well. A lot will depend on how that line plays but I think they will be fine.

The depression is what some people are generally questioning. If I remember correctly even the Eagles brass questioned his depression. There were a couple articles from Spardaro alluding to that fact. It is just floating around a few websites.
It is to bad but hopefully The Big Kid is alright.

So former coach of the Seahawks Mora goes off in an interview and proves what we already knew, he's an idiot. I can't believe he would say these things, including some confidential team information (Sims not going to be with the team). I really hope this is grounds for the Seahawks to not have to pay out the rest of his contract.

Not sure what's in his contract, but none of that seems confidential. The info about Sims might appear confidential, but if Sims is telling people outside the organization that kind of blows it.
Mora comes off as a bit of a jackass, but he doesn't seem all that different from the majority of coaches out there.

He sounds like a bitter jerk for sure. Not sure what he thought he would gain from this.
The really odd thing is saying that he doesn't know who Whitehurst was. That only seems to make him look bad not the Seahawks new regime.
