I'd love for Kadri to come back as a well-seasoned vet after this current contract. By then, there is a good chance he has another cup or two to his name. The GM-player relationship Conroy is creating is something special and can benefit us in the long run, both for incoming players and returning players if we have that opportunity to grab some former guys.

You want Kadri back at age 40?

Good guy Nazem Kadri, love to see it. Good leader when he was here, always professional and had some insane highlight reels. Gonna root for him in the playoffs. Looking at that MacKinnon goal he's one of three people in the world that can make Nate smile

Speaks to the respect both sides had for one another and why Craig valued this so much.
Kadri is a class act.

If he's still an effective NHLer in a bottom 6 role, absolutely. That's why I say don't burn bridges if they can be help down the road.

heard framework of the deal was there including the picks that went for Roy
heard they agreed on retention. heard it was 15% not the 20% it ended up being
heard it was far down the road and there was a time where everyone thought it was going to happen and then it didn't
heard there was very hard feelings when it didn't cross the line
the Avs were mad, Kadri was mad, the Flames were mad
everyone was upset they put all this work in and it didn't happened
some people blame Flames ownership - honestly Friedman doesn't know
everyone was mad and everyone was blaming everyone else
on Friday they reconvened and they punched it into the end zone
Kadri didn't like hearing that he wanted out because it has a negative imagery
he wanted the Flames to be painted in a positive light
have nothing against Calgary, he just too old for a rebuild
Felt Flames went above and beyond on his 1000th game night
Flames looked at Kadri as a good soldier, good mentor who never complained and we are going to get it done
Flames were like we are going to pay it forward, we are going to get the good karma, and we are going to put it across the line
Kadri is going to tell everybody the Flames did right by me
Some people really spoke high of Curren
people who know the drafts tell Friedman that the Flames do really well drafting considering they don't draft at the top
heard the Avs players were over the moon when they heard Kadri was coming back

update from Friedman on the 32tp:
there was mild pushback when Friedman said there was hard feelings when the deal didn't get done on Thursday
some people said yes, some people said no
what happened to get the deal over the finish line is that Colorado felt they could still make the trade after the Roy deal
some of us thought they couldn't
Friedman was correct the first deal had 15% retention but it had to go up to 20% after the Avs got Roy
in exchange for the extra 5%, the package from the Avs was rejigged slightly in the Flames favor

Extra 5% and a 4th for the 2nd rounder > 5th rounder.

Four seasons from now, I'd hope the Flames have better home grown options for those tiles.

After having some time to think this over, Conroy and team did an amazing job. Kadri, given his age and contract, was a player many said just couldn't be moved. To get both a 1st and 2nd back with only 20% retention really is great work. Credit to Kadri too for playing with enough motivation to keep other teams interested, despite his age.

It'll be interesting to see what Olofsson does for the rest of the season, really not sure what we're getting in that player.

I thought that Conroy said to Steinberg when asked, that there was no previous deal with Colorado that Elliotte reported? Perhaps I misheard.

Conroy said there was no final deal agreed to on Thursday.
Friedman is reporting on what was negotiated on Thursday vs Friday.
Semantics.

He could be a good fit going forward. He's a shooter and can score. This team NEEDS a shooter in the worst way possible, so maybe he hangs around. He's there to buy time for young guys, here for two or three years would be good by me.

I like to think of Makar signing here for the start of the 27/28 season as another "condition" of the '28 1st rounder.
