Things we know about Huberdeau.
1. He excels alongside teammates and in a system that can effectively transition the puck and play with speed which opens up ice for his playmaking and vision
2. As one of the game's purest playmakers he requires the talent around him that can finish plays off with consistency
3. He has proven to be an elite powerplay producer while playing on the left half wall/starting LD position

Things we know about the Calgary Flames.
1. We are/play as the slowest team in the NHL (NHL edge stats confirm this)
2. We have the worst finishing rates in the NHL (lowest SH%)
3. We have the 31st ranked PP in the NHL and converted the player to a being a net front presence

My conclusion? It appears that everything that Huberdeau was good at prior to arriving here - the flames have been and continue to be terrible at.
Most of the things you say we “know” about Huby are opinions, not facts.

They're facts about what Huberdeau accomplished before coming to Calgary, and pretty accurate descriptions of how he did it.

And when his dangerous pass can't result in goals, usually it would become turnovers, and our coach would bench such players, maybe that's also the reason he became power forward. even not score, less risk either.

Most players' points would drop after traded to Flames. first flames don't have the talents to inflate each other's points. also flames were playing defensive or less goal games for a long time, and definitely have a system causing less points.

Looks like McKenna's strength are also dangerous pass, don't think he could also transfer to power forward. considering the talent Flames already have like Zayne is also offensive player, maybe it's time to change the system to developing, fit players other than squeeze them into the system and became nobody. fire the coach for McKenna! only if we could out tanking Canuks
His passes suck. If your passes either go into skates or result in constant turnovers thats not on 'the receiver' who never got the pass.

Agreed, i am not seeing a guy make great passes and guys not finishing. I am seeing a disengaged guy making fancy back passes right to the other team and lack of any real quality as a hockey player

He put up 115 pts and over point per game for several seasons so don’t say he has no skills

I am see a guy taking a retirement package and is giving up.

And yeah he is a nice guy. That’s his only good quality.

I think his body language and his interviews and extensive work with a sports psychologist indicate someone who doesn't have the strongest self confidence. Kadri never seems to have self doubt, which probably helps stay more consistent.

Huberdeau reminds me of when Roberto Alomar completely forgot how to hit a ball and was trying a new bat basically ever at bat. But for years. It's kind of sad to see. I wouldn't be surprised if any apparent lack of effort stems from self doubt leading him to make conservative choices instead of aggressive ones.

I'm prone to the same thing myself. I played a lot of volleyball, and was usually a reliable server that even if I wasn't playing would get subbed in to serve at important times. I hit a stretch where I just straight up forgot to serve a ball. It hit rock bottom when I was playing at a reasonably decent level, and hit a serve that didn't even make my own side of the net and hit a teammate in the back of the head. It was awful and took me a while to work out of. You could just feel the looks from your teammates and coaches expecting you to screw up every time. So maybe I'm just projecting here haha.

I’m wondering if Huberdeau’s flubbed passes have to do with a slight decline in his reflexes. Passes that were tape-to-tape a couple of years ago end up a fraction of a second too slow, and he hasn’t figured out how to compensate.

I became particularly aware of this stuff after I had a very minor stroke some years ago. No lasting ill effects, thank God, but the last two fingers of my right hand became noticeably slower all at once. I had to relearn how to type, because my fingers were typing the letters in the wrong order. These days I hardly even use my right pinky when typing. For a hockey player who depends on split-second timing, the normal course of aging can be devastating if he doesn’t learn to adjust.

His passing was elite. He could thread the needle, amazing vision and hands to do it. I thought once he was the best passer in the league.

Probably going to make some people mad but I don't think he ever wanted to be in Calgary but took the deal because it was insane. Maybe he lost motivation? The aggressiveness he had when young is a faded memory at this point.
