You know this will be unpopular, but at least those Oiler guys WON something in their careers.
This 2004 team is still glorified in this city 20 years later and they didn't even win. I wouldn't be surprised if we are still reminiscing about 2004 in 2034.
Right or wrong, those guys have rings to show and our guys don't.
I think you've missed the boat on that 2004 team.
Sure, they are glorified for having success and reaching the final.
But for me, the true feelings for that team come from who they were and how they accomplished what they did. They weren't the biggest, fastest, most skilled team but #### did they bring it in the playoffs. They played tough and outworked all the teams they beat. It's a legacy that goes beyond simply winning or having rings. It's a legacy that speaks to what being a Flame is all about.
IMO anyway.
Edit - and as Paulie said, it lit the city up. It truly was a legendary time.

I think a bunch of those guys fell in love with the fans and city as well and want to really deliver on a championship.
I think they want that feeling back in the city, you wont ever recapture what 2004 felt like its a different time now but delivering on that would be amazing.
Also Tanguay never played on that team so he has nothing to do with 2004.
Actually I wish the Flames win Cup with Conroy as GM, Tangs Iginla are associate coaches, Stajan, Kipper assistant coaches, Backlund as captain and Gio and Monohan as trade deadline addition.

Don't just skip to 3:05, that whole video is gold! Especially when Lowe takes the mic. We have two types of fans! Half the GMs in this league would trade their rosters for ours!
If Love is an AC, it's practically interchangeable. This would still be a good thing. That said my one concern is always that an assistant promoted to HC rarely works. Feels a bit like delaying the inevitable because you're afraid of losing a guy like Huska
I am now guessing we see Huska with Tanguay and Love. I am not sure about this, but he is the guy they have groomed longer. I was hoping for Love.
I guess it's a new thought process that they groom winners. Hopefully, Conroy isn't going down the same road as Treliving when it comes to failed coaches.
