If Huberdeau cannot produce more than 15G and 50 some points while being even a remotely responsible 200ft player, than he isn't worth his weight in the least.

No Florida was not looking to cut ties with him, a opportunity presented itself and they made a move. They didn't enter the offseason looking to offload him.

Just watching the garbage bag day interview with Lucic, I'm gonna miss him on the Flames if he's done. I really enjoyed having him on the team. He's a good guy and has been a good Flame. Can't believe how my sentiment turned from the time of the trade. I hated that trade, but he turned me into a fan. With Johnny gone, he's the next guy whose name and number I would have been happy to have on a jersey.

He's a good dude. It's too bad he was overplayed so much over the past two seasons as I don't have any issue with the guy or anything.

I don't think the burden of proof is on him... I'd like to see some evidence that Florida actively wanted to cut ties with him. The way I understood it was that once Tkachuk was available, they really liked the player and the kind of grit he brought that they felt the team was missing, so they worked out a deal - and obviously one of their superstars had to be part of the deal.

Florida and Huby were mid negotiation on a contract extension... doesn't sound like someone that they were trying to cut ties with.

Watching Stone talk in his interview, I hope they just get him a contract at the first opportunity this summer. He has earned it. He's not asking for the moon. Just give the guy some certainty.

To get Tkachuk, Florida would have had to give up Barkov or Huberdeau. They weren’t going to give up their first line centre.

I'd sign him to an AHL deal. Gilbert would be just fine as the 7D and he's got a deal.

Not only was it asserted Fla wanted to cut ties, it was asserted that POs were the reason. There’s no evidence of either that I know of.

Were they? According to his agent, he tried to get the ball rolling on a contract extension at the draft, Zito said he needed a week or two to take care of other business first, and the next time they heard from Zito it was about the trade. Walsh said they were expecting a contract offer, but it never came.
Quote:
On Tuesday, in an interview with Daily Face-off’s Matt Larkin, Huberdeau revealed how he found out he had been moved and how the trade call with his former general manager, Bill Zito went down. The forward had just wrapped up a game of beer league hockey and his phone rang.
“I don’t think he’s calling me for an extension at this time of night,” Huberdeau told his friends.
He was right. Prior to the monster trade, there had been talks held between the Panthers and his agent, Allan Walsh, with the Huberdeau camp reportedly expecting an offer to be forthcoming. That offer would never come though, and instead the next time Huberdeau and his representation heard from the Panthers it was to notify them of a trade.

That sounds pretty far from contract negotiations being underway.

Goddam you. Now I'm thinking of this alternate reality where the Flames landed Barkov in the deal and didn't sign Kadri.
Can you imagine Barkov under Sutter? *squeals*

It's very annoying how quiet everything is with this organization after a season like that.
Give the fans something to talk about or hope for, and do it now.

Getting it right is more important that getting something out now. It's a long off-season.

Email said that Season Ticket Renewals will (finally) be out later this week.
I assume we'll see a press conference before those renewals go out.

Cutting his ice time down by almost 4 minutes? The powerplay didn't even run through him even though he has been a top producer.
Like I said before teams are playing their stars a lot and letting them stir the offence that doesn't happen with Sutter. What use is a 10.5 million Huberdeau because Sutter doesn't want to utilize him like should.
I don't see other teams doing that guys that produce a ton of points. Did Tampa ask Kucherov to change his game?
You just had a poster say we should trade him if he can't player Sutter hockey. Really we should dump a superstar because Darryl Sutter is to stubborn to adapt with the times.
Yes the player shares part of the blame but coaching plays a big part in the game now. The guy came in with the right attitude he even said he was ready to commit to playing better two way hockey after getting swept by Tampa. People around him said that he carries himself like a star. He wasn't used that way, don't know many stars playing 16:30 per game. Its not a earn your ice time either he was getting limited minutes as soon as the season started.
|
His ice time (like other top six players) was given to Backlund as the Flames had likely the best third line in the game.
Not sure I would have done anything different.
You can't play Backlund with Huberdeau (they did eventually) because he's a shut down guy facing number one lines, but you also can't keep Backlund off the ice to fix a broken star.

My frustration with Sutter is that there could have been a little separation created by playing offensive guys more in the third period when they were trailing and also by having a clear top PP and giving that unit more ice time.

Double shifts, or have him on both powerplay units and get his touches up.
Lindholm, Hubderdeau, Mangipane, Dube and Kadri all had 30 more goals in them as a group. Some of that could have come off the special teams if they didn't run two broken units.
