Okay, but then by this logic, there is no such thing as an overpayment. Every trade that is made is then dictated by the market.

There are several precedents. Getting a team to eat the last year of a contract in the $6 million range will cost you a first-round pick.

I do question why "management" lets them stick around for so long.

They have been trying to move Monahan for a while, obviously nobody was taking him for less...nobody else even wanted to do this deal.

Basically shipping out Monahan and replacing him with a now competitor is pretty genius. Kadri is more a force du jour then Monahan.

We are certainly in for an exciting season of hockey.

Why is understanding the difference between opinion and fact so hard for some people?

How was this a bad trade? He used a pick (with conditions attached) that he had no business getting from the Florida trade. Had that 1st not been included for Tkachuk, everyone would still be praising Tre for that trade. They can’t all be Picasso’s like the Hall trade.

Why are you debating anything with this Oiler loving troll? Don't give him the response.

I’ll take your word for it since Oiler fans know a thing or two about terrible trades.

Yeah, Treliving ultimately traded a gift/a found-money pick from his fleecing of Florida which is still a fleecing without it to unload cap to bring in a 2C that makes their center ice position formidably deep.

Next 5 years we're still sitting on 5 firsts.

Who here do you think is sweating this? Lol.

Oiler fans wouldn't understand dealing from a surplus of assets to achieve meaningful team improvements because they never fleece or outright win trades with anybody.

Instead they pay meaningful assets to bring in a 37 year old overpaid Keith in his twilight.

I think on its own this was a lot to give up for a 1 year salary dump.

But if its the only option to get Kadri then what do you do. I'm sure Tre shopped around and there were no better options.

We're all in and have a team capable of competing for the next few years and still have our regular 1st picks each year...what's not to like?

teams been trying to move Monahan forever...if there was a better offer they would have taken it. How else do you clear over 6M?

Nah, I think Treviling had Lucic as the one to move as it wouldn't have cost nearly as much due to his remaining salary and ability to provide something to a team. Problem is Lucic held a lot more cards and after rumours of Lucic trade attempts subsided, Brad moved on to Sean and made an expensive, but necessary trade so he could sign Kadri.

Reading through the last 34 pages, and once we knew the first was included, people complaining that we had to include the first for a salary dump are forgetting that we are trading an INJURED salary dump, that was always going to raise the price. Monny maybe able to skate to start the season but that doesn't make him the player the team needs now. If he wasn't good to go, and we placed him on LTIR, we would have missed the boat on a quality #2c like Kadri.

I admit I am not a fan of the Kadri signing, to old for too long imo, but it's done, so excited to see what the season brings.

No, you can’t retain that large of a percentage of his contract, 50% maximum.

Plus I don’t think you are allowed to simply trade a player to a team and then get him back with lesser cap owed.

Plus Calgary would have zero desire to have Monny back today.
