The hilarious thing, in the most horrific, black comedy way possible, is that this is the high water mark of our rebuild. Like everyone had career years and this is the result.

Flames close out last 5 minutes combined of regular time over 2 games, or pot very good chances in both OT’s, and for all the negativity and lacklustre play across the lineup (minus Gio, Hamonic, Andersson, and Smith) and the tactics thst are allowing so many shots against, they are up 3-1 at least.
If any Flames team can do this over the past two decades given the regular season, this team can.
Put game 5 away Friday, rise again in Denver Sunday, and Flames will be rolling by then for Tuesday. Why not?

If I'm being honest, I didn't think this group was a real threat for the cup.
But I honestly thought they had a bit of a run in them. If I had a sober honest to god prediction, I thought they would bow out in the second round.
What I wonder if, is one round enough to get that experience? Luckily for this group, aside from Giordano, the window is just opening. Key players are getting their first playoff experience. What this playoff has shown is that being a top seed with home ice doesn't mean that much. Just get in.
We all want to crucify certain players, but realistically they're not going anywhere.
It sucks that it's whole years of our lives, but I do believe that on the whole this year is a stepping stone and the Flames are no longer just also rans, but legit contenders. This year is not a one off.
This sounds like a post mortem, because it kind of feels that way. Its not over until it's over.
It really is too bad that this amazing season is likely to end this way. But in the grand scheme its worth considering just where this group actually is.
In the interest of the last glimmer of hope, what were the chances that the Avs were going to win 3 straight against the top team in the west? Now what are the chances the top team in the west can win 3 straight against the bottom wild card team?.

We all know whats going to happen in game 5, the refs are literally going to call everything in the Flames favour to delay the inevitable and attempt to cover up the mockery that was games 3 and 4.

But what this is saying is "if they don't collapse in the critical moment twice, they're up 3-1". They did it because it's the makeup of too many of these players allowing it to happen.
Playoffs is about performing under pressure in those critical moments, it's not just a coin flip, it's failure at the epitome of what the playoffs are about.
They haven't shown that they can win three periods in a row, let alone three games.

Heres another happy thought: this avs team that has been DOMINATING the Flames was the BEST matchup for the Flames of the west playoff teams.
Lol.

I admire your optimism but the only way Flames win game 5 is if Col takes their foot off the gas since the series has been so easy for them

Avs 3 Flames 2 on the brink
Man I hope the flames can pull a miracle out of their ass, what a depressing way this would be to end what was a great year of hockey. I really don’t want to have to look forward to picking 22 at the draft.
For the love of god, please split up the top line

This core is 2-11 in their last 13 playoff games. 6-13 if you want to include the series against a washed up Canucks team on their last limb.

Johnny is playing like a chicken. Maybe he should put on muscle instead of acting cute eating skittles. Monahan moves around the ice like an old man. 6 foot 4 and he is soft as butter.

The Flames are done. They have shown zero heart when facing adversity in 2015, 2017 and this season. Horrid performances by anyone not named Bennett, Hathaway, Mangiapane, Ryan, or Smith.
Gutless bunch of wonders here. Simply the most pathetic excuse for a performance I have watched from the Flames ever. In 06-07, at least the Flames were the 8th seed when they played like this.

Cursed. Just cursed. Games 2 and 4 end exactly the same way. Blow leads late in the third. Have great looks early in OT immediately followed by COL goals.
It’s a cruel world.

The Avs didn't even do anything special. They just turned it up when they really needed.
Our defense suuuucks so bad right now it's laughable. 173 shots against in the series so far. Smith has saved 93.1% of the shots so far, despite the five game massacre. If I was Smith, I'd probably be literally choking some team mates right now. This was likely his one big chance, and half the team just doesn't show up to play.
And yeah, why is Neal still playing. What a disaster that signing has turned out to be.

Really?
Monahan: 3rd playoffs
Gaudreau: 3rd playoffs
Backlund: 3rd playoffs
Bennett: 3rd playoffs
Tkachuk: 2nd playoffs
The problem with this team is the center position as a whole. The Flames have slowest and softest group of centers of all playoff teams and it's not even close. IMHO we aren't going anywhere in the playoffs with Mony, Backs and Janko playing #1C, #2C and #3C. This group of centers is not built for the playoffs.
