Tavares is worth the money, and definitely worth pursuing if he decides to test the waters. I wouldn't blink an eye if the Flames gave him over 12 million a season.

I don't think it is your high-paid players that cripple your ability to field a competitive team. It is your over-priced bottom players like Brouwer. Thankfully, the Flames have a single player that fits that criteria, and it isn't too bad either, at least when compared to some of the crippling contracts league-wide, and with teams that have more than one of these.

Flames are in great shape to offer a huge payday to Tavares. It is starting to seem unlikely that Tavares will get to that point, and if he does, Flames would still be hard-pressed to sign him. However, I would without a doubt support that signing.

Friedman's 10 thoughts:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...man-canadiens/

1. Bergevin may try to get another 1st to draft Hayton
2. Add Craig Anderson to the list of players that may be traded out of OTT
3. Teams are asking about Parayko with Edm being one of them. Price will be enormous
4. Not convinced Lindholm gets moved from Carolina
5. No news on Panarin and wonders if the BJs just goes for it with Panarin and Bobrovsky in their final year of their respective contracts
6. Lots of interest in Grubauer
7. Teams interested in Coyle, Niederreiter, and Zucker are being asked to take Ennis as part of the deal
8. Wayne Simmonds trade list was due this week

9+10 are some intriguing prospects for tomorrow's draft.

If they will take Brouwer do you take Ennis in a trade for Coyle? Who else is going from the Flames then?

Theyre not taking Brouwer for Ennis IMO

Ennis has 1 year at 4.8 mil
Brouwer has 2 years at 4.5 mil

I'm worried that if Flames take Ennis along with Coyle, Wild will ask for Ferland in return along with Brouwer.

Don't think I'd do that deal. Would you?

I can actually see Treliving making a deal here. Brouwer Brodie for Niederreiter and Ennis

Gaudreau- Monahan- Niederreiter
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Ferland
Ennis - N. Shore - Lazar

One of those lose lose deals. I keep the evil that I know in that situation

If it's TRUE that the Wild are making Ennis part of any trades they better sweeten the deal or also take back a bad contract .I think Ennis could us a change of scenery but like another poster said earlier his concussion problems the last couple of years he mite not be salvageable and with his contract that might not be worth the risk.i like Coyle and NN but only if the deal makes sense

Pretty much. Either way, I consider both Brouwer & Ennis to be done players at an NHL level.

Had a couple of real bad concussions during the 2015-16 season. Has looked pretty awful hockey playing wise ever since then.

I think after he went in the washer someone didn't read the correct instructions and possibly set the dryer on high

Nope. I have a very high opinion of Ferland. He's one of our own.

The current gen or drafted and devloped players on the Flames are guys i want to see stay. Its why I'd rather move Hamilton than Brodie.

Thank you to BT for making this draft interesting even without an early pick.

if Minnesota wants to shed a bad contract in Ennis, i don't know why they'd take on another in Brouwer?

he also has a modified NTC...

i do like Nino though... it would really help bolster the top six

Nino and Coyle would be nice pickups; they've both been close to breaking out and would be solid scoring depth.

They’re not trading Ennis for Brouwer. And throwing Brouwer into any trade proposal is deducting from the value Flames are putting in.
