Pretty dull deadline day. Treliving didn't do anything major but don't think this was the time to sell the farm. Prices were astronomical and we're still a bit of a bubble team.

Hold on to assets and add a bit of depth for the bottom six. Works for me.

With them less likely to dress, they're better served back in Stockton, who could use them. I think that's what was meant.

Don't have to send anyone down, but also no reason to keep guys up if they're not going to play.

Sending them down before the deadline allows them to play in the AHL playoffs.

I'm 100% fine with this being a quiet day for the Flames. There isn't a single trade that was made elsewhere where I wish it had been the Flames in on it. Probably the Maroon deal (in my view the best value deal of the day...ha ha stupid oilers) is the only one - and they weren't going to make that deal with CGY (Flames would have had to pay more).
The impact players required a stiff price, and as others have mentioned, really reinforces why the Hamonic deal was what it was. Core players with reasonable term left are gonna cost you.
I don't mind the efforts to improve the forward depth as that has been an issue. Whether or not Stewart and Shore can have any impact remains to be seen but worst case - they have given up a 7th for both.
Feels like a day where staying on the sidelines isn't bad.

I think that Andersson can play on the bottom pairing right now, but what happens if Hamilton or Hamonic get hurt? Suddenly you have to play Andersson in the top 4 with Brodie, and then either call up another defencemen from the farm to play on the off-side, or have Bartkowski play on his off-side.

Things could get ugly in a hurry with an injury. It isn't worth moving Stone and risking that just to get a third? MAYBE a 2nd round pick to a team that is really desperate for defencemen? Too disruptive with a chance of blowing up in your face.
Agreed. Andersson doesn't have any experience in the NHL at this point either, do you want that on your bottom pairing in the playoffs? Probably not. Maybe move Stone at the draft or the next deadline if Andersson is blowing the door off but it's still time to be patient.

Logically, I knew that standing pat this year was probably the right thing so I am not disappointed in the minor deals we made today.

But yeah, It is always cool to make a significant upgrade. With no 1st rounder and being somewhat mediocre in the standings, I don't think it was our year to overpay as teams do this time of year.

I’m very happy with the low cost moves.

Big trades are always exciting, but with the limited picks we have I think this was the wise and measured play.

I am happier to have Stewart at no acquisition cost then Kane at a far higher price. He probably will be the minimal impact Rene Bourque type player, but he could be an impact maker, especially if the team makes it to the playoffs.

Nick Shore is some legitimate NHL bottom 6 depth, an area which has been a weakness of the team all year.

The teams out of the playoffs made like bandits today.

Contending teams taking chances, got better for now.

Flames stuck in the middle.

These big splashes that teams make at the TD seldom work out well, anyways. Even for the prohibitive favourites like TB and Boston there remains a huge risk of running into a hot goalie, suffering serious injuries or something unforeseen that could end a playoff run in short order.

I have seen a few posters complaining about improvements that SJ, LA and VGK have made, but for the California teams these strike me as desperate moves from organizations that see their window slamming shut.

I am okay with the outcome for the Flames today.

Exactly the California teams are just desperate...seriously SJ and LA are not winning cups. They are just burning assets for nothing

Well, we'll see what this group can do. With hot goaltending, who knows. Get in, get on a run.

The likes of Winnipeg, Nashville and Vegas will be tough in the West. Probably not in the position to "go all in".

… like the fact that they're both divisional seeds in the same division, and at best, only one of them can make it past the second round.

No goalie picked up might suggest smith is back reletively soon? Also might suggest they are confident that a rittich Gillies tandem can do the job.

Other good news is Anaheim missed on Kane. They did nothing but chimera. Gotta like that. Additionally, with Chris Stewart we picked up some toughness which I like.

Kind of happy they didn't make any big moves. Keep assets and have cap space to get Tavares in the summer.

Ottawa might have unintentionally done well by not dealing either Hoffman or Karlsson.
