I still found it disturbing that they kept showing him getting CPR while going into the ambulance. No need for that

Not a great speech by any means, but nicely segued into a speech supporting Canada's anti-terrorism actions abroad (read: bombing ISIS). That was predictable.

Generic remarks from Harper: says we'll learn more in the coming days, thanks first responders and offers condolences. Canada will "never be intimidated". Reminds all Canadians to remain vigilant.

He was cleared after the assessment.

Speech was extremely scripted. I guess because everything is still going on its tough to safely say anything else.

Connection to ISIS was made, which was expected.

Canada is at war.

Some people will have a lot of questions to answer in the next couple of days due to these terrorist attacks

Yes: cleared to stand trial.

But psych assessments are not routine: if one was ordered, there was a reason to suspect he had mental health issues.

In all likelihood, he did have such issues, they just weren't enough to prevent him from instructing counsel or raising a NCRMD defence.

I'm sure we'll get more clarity over the next week.

Given how tight-lipped the police have been to this point, and how much they're likely to know at this point, I have my doubts.

Let's see what Mulcair says. If he jumps on the ISIS train, I'll give both him and the PM the benefit of the doubt, and assume they know something we don't (and that that something is enough to justify that link).

Lets not politicize this but we've had a lot.
Quote:
Pipeline Bombings - 2008 to 2009

Six EnCana natural gas pipelines near Dawson Creek and Tomslake in British Columbia were bombed, raising questions about the safety of Canadian energy installations. No one has ever been convicted in the bombings.

Firebombing of United Talmud Torahs school - 2004

A firebomb attack on the library of a Jewish school in Montreal drew condemnation from across the country and around the world. Sleiman Elmerhebi was later convicted of the attack on the United Talmud Torahs of Montreal school.

Second Cup Firebombing - 2001

Three Second Cup locations in Montreal were firebombed by Rhéal Mathieu, a previously convicted FLQ terrorist, who was later convicted for all three bombings. They were targeted because of the company’s use of an English name. Seven McDonald’s restaurants were also firebombed.

Serial bombing in the Maritimes - 1995

One day after the Oklahoma City bombing attack, a powerful pipe bomb was placed outside the Prince Edward Island legislature, injuring one. Roger Charles Bell was later convicted of a series of pipe bomb attacks throughout P.E.I. and Nova Scotia.

Air India Bombing - 1985

After departing Montreal, Air India flight 182 exploded during a flight to London, England. The attack, linked to Sikh separatists, killed all 328 passengers and crew and is the largest mass murder in Canadian history.

Central Station Bombing - 1984

Three people were killed and 30 wounded when a bomb went off in Montreal’s Central Station. Thomas Bernard Brigham, a retired American armed forces officer, was convicted in the attack, claiming to have been protesting a visit by Pope John Paul II to Canada.

Shooting at the National Assembly - 1984

A Canadian soldier killed three people and wounded 13 after opening fire with several firearms in the National Assembly of Quebec. Denis Lortie, the shooter, intended to kill René Lévesque and other members of the Parti Québécois and surrendered to police after several hours of negotiation.

The October Crisis - 1970

Following a bombing campaign throughout the previous decade, members of the FLQ kidnapped British diplomat James Cross and Quebec Minister of Labour Pierre Laporte in Montreal. Mr. Laporte was later murdered and his body discovered in the trunk of a car in Montreal while Mr. Cross was released in early December.

Botched Bombing of Parliament - 1966

Paul Joseph Chartier died in an attempt to bomb the House of Commons after the device he fashioned out of sticks of dynamite exploded prematurely in a washroom of Parliament. No others were harmed but the washroom was heavily damaged.

Well when there is an increase in numbers that are believed to support Isis and other radical groups within Canada you can't just sit back and do nothing.

And yes they are right to back their allies and NATO to fight ISIS

Mulcair's speech would have gone well with a warm glass of milk.

I'm not sure I've seen him out of attack mode for the last few years.
