Not a single poster has defended Carcillo. Give it a rest.

How does someone get a broken jaw if he isn't hit in the head?

My guess would be when his head hit the ice. To me the hit was shoulder to chest.
Two games is what he deserved. Late hit resulting in an injury.

Is it ok to think both plays were dirty? Both suspensions seem fair to me.

Losing Carcillo for ten games is actually a good thing for the Rangers.

Dreger speculates that Carcillo will attempt to appeal the suspension, but I don't get how he has a case. It's my understanding that if it is intentional, and I don't know how you could possibly argue it wasn't, it's an automatic 10 games.

Self-Suspension

I just saw the Prust hit for the first time. One of the dirtiest hits ive seen in a long time. Makes the Bruins seem like nice guys.

For those wondering how his jaw is broken, it definitely wasn't the initial point of contact, but it looks like he still clipped his head with the follow through.

Haha. That's funny.
That wasn't the dirtiest hit I saw yesterday...

Exactly right.
Had point of contact been head, in person hearing would have been required

Lifetime Suspension
|
These suspensions are backwards.
Carcillo should get 2, Prust should get 20.
If someone grabs your shirt or jersey, and starts yanking on it in an aggressive way, sometimes it's just instinct to shove back, I could see myself doing it in the heat of the moment. The official wasn't hurt... give him a couple games and move on.
Prust hit on the other hand, what a filthy, dirty, POS hit that was. Lost any respect I had left for the guy.
I believe suspensions in the playoffs should be tied to the severity of the injury. Prust should be out for whatever the league feels fair at minimum, and until Stephan gets back in the line-up, he's eating popcorn in the press box.

Physical abuse of officials will never be tolerated, nor should it be.

I like Prust, but disappointed in the NHL only handing out two games on that. Type of hit they should clamp down on harder.
Also, people need to stop calling things hockey plays......it means nothing.

I didn't see this live and just watched a couple of different angles on this including this one. To me - it actually looks like his shoulder does catch him on the jaw on the initial point of contact or real close to the initial point. Either way it was definitely late and unnecessary. Not a "hockey hit" in today's NHL as one poster was calling it.

Yet, in the thousands of instances of a ref/linesman grabbing a player to keep him under control in every year of hockey, only a handful of incidences like this have ever happened.
I agree with your argument that cheap, predatory, and clearly undisciplined hits (like Prust's) need to carry an equally stiff penalty...but I just can't brush what Carcillo did off as that inconsequential. You can't act aggressively towards an official, and you can't let the door to those actions open even the slightest.
