I don't know why the hawks are holding on to him...he's clearly not signing there and it pretty much looks like he's coming to the Flames or maybe panthers. Why don't they just trade his rights and be done with it, at least they'll get something out of it and be done with the speculation. If they're going to walk away from this with nothing just to prove a point, it's kinda dumb. Even if the Flames/panthers aren't making a serious offer, I'm sure a deal could be made.

^^ you do know that Chicago will get a 2nd round pick (54th overall) from the league as compensation if they don't sign him, right? Unless somebody offered more than a late 2nd, the Blackhawks would be stupid to trade his rights. And since no team will give up any assets if they feel they can sign him as UFA, this one will drag out until mid August, I'm sure.

Nope lol. I knew they'd get some compensation but I thought it was regardless of if they trade him or not for some reason. I guess it's just a waiting game. I think that's the most frustrating part of it all, and probably more frustrating for us as fans wanting to know if we've got a new prospect or not.

I'd put him somewhere in the same range as Bill Arnold.
Personally, I'd have Arnold ahead because I like his overall 200ft game. From what I've seen, Hayes isn't as strong in his own zone as Arnold, but probably has a better offensive upside.
I'd expect them to be low in the top-10 or just outside the top-10.

The Rangers have targeted pending free-agent winger Kevin Hayes, the 22-year-old Boston College graduate who was selected 24th overall by the Blackhawks in the 2010 Entry Draft, but who will be eligible to hit the open market on Aug. 16 if he does not sign with Chicago by Aug. 15, The Post has learned.

Go ahead Hayes, hold out to sign with the Rangers. That snake Sather can use his mouth piece Brooks to get it in your head that the Rangers would be a better fit than Calgary... but after a year or so, you'll end up in Columbus or Springfield.
I think if he really wanted to play with the rangers, he'd go there after his first contract. He can only get paid so much no matter the team, why not make that while having fun with your friends and then move on if you want. I just don't think the rangers are really in it. The rangers are like the leafs, they're rumoured to be involved with every player available.

Where would Kevin Hates slot in our prospect poll if he did sign?
Somewhere outside the top ten?
I think he would slot 2nd on the RW list at this point. Smith has the upside but is 18 and unproven. Hayes is knocking on the door to the NHL.
For me, he slots anywhere in that 2nd tier of forwards with Granlund, Arnold, Knight and Reinhart - trying to crack the NHL lineup but without the upside of the Gaudreau, Baertschi, Poirier, Klimchuk group.
I have no idea who played on what line in the WC this year but Kevin Hayes stat line is not great. Or, helps show how outstanding the JG performance was.
Will probably be Florida with his brother, or Calgary with his man crush.
I am not sure of the contract discussion have been going between the two sides but he hasn't re-signed with the Panthers yet

#FlaPanthers sign RFA C Brandon Pirri to a two year deal. Still need to sign Kulikov and Hayes.

Won't matter Jimmy Hayes filed for arbitration. Unless the arbitrator awards him more than $3.5mil (very unlikely), the Panthers will get him for at least another year.

Hayes, who is continuing to negotiate with the Blackhawks, is expected to be pursued by numerous NHL clubs. Several industry sources report they believe the Rangers will be among a handful of finalists in the bidding for the 6-foot-3, 205-pound left-handed shooting right wing, who played two seasons with Chris Kreider, should he become a free agent.
A finalist for the Hobey Baker award given to the NCAA’s best player, Hayes recorded 65 points (27-38) for the Eagles as a senior while playing on a line with Hobey Baker winner Johnny Gaudreau, the center who joined the Flames for the final game of their season after having been selected 104th overall by Calgary in 2011.
Several NHL talent evaluators told The Post they believe Hayes, who did not attend Chicago’s prospect camp last week after having done so in each of the previous four summers, likely would have been selected between 15th and 25th had he been eligible to re-enter the 2014 draft. He is regarded as an offensive talent perhaps a bit lacking in the ability to grind.
Hayes, who is eligible/required to sign a two-year Entry Level deal regardless of whether he signs with Chicago or becomes a free agent, would have a shot to make the Rangers with a strong training camp. The Blueshirts appear to have vacancies on their third and fourth lines.
