Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 1m Its my understanding..after playing his 9th game in Phx Tues. #Flames will announce Sean Monahan's future this season in Dallas Wed.

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions 42s
#Flames to arrive in Dallas after practice in Phx Wed about 6pm local time. Monahan to shop for permanent digs in YYC after announcement.

MacKinnon's skating and puck skills place him higher than Monahan for me. I like Monahan but the Flames would swap the two if they could.

Just saw the vid of the Pens/Avs game where Crosby totally undresses MacKinnon.

Approx. 1:02 of the vid.

Monahan has been astonishing so far. After every game I think, ok that's nice but it can't last, he's going to hit a wall soon. The kid just keeps proving me wrong. I hope I'm still saying the same thing 20, 30, 40, 50 games from now.

Monahan's IQ and 2-way game > MacKinnon's.

MacKinnon will undoubtedly produce higher totals at his peak, but I think Monahan will be more instrumental to the team winning with his 200 ft game.

So, as crazy as it seems, I would rather have #23. (though I may eat crow in a couple seasons)

I don't think you've watched enough MacKinnon. I love Monahan, but now this is starting to get a little silly.

It's not that crazy. Monahan was dubbed a potential first overall guy for the 2013 draft but the year following up to it he played on an abysmal junior team and MacKinnon played with another potential top pick.

Mackinnon is much stronger on the puck than Monahan. Has more speed to his game too. Those are the only two categories that he is noticeably better

As for hockey IQ it is just way too early to make a judgement on that

Monahan is T-2nd in goals after tonight's game. Great start for the kid. Love his nose for the net.

He's actually tied for sixth.

Watched enough MacKinnon on what team and in what league, on what line?

MacKinnon is a great talent but people on here acting like Monahan isnt even close to better are just speaking off their jr careers and numbers / highlights.

I think we will look back at the 13/14/15 drafts and MacKinnon, Ekblad and McDavid/Day wont be the best players. Just my gut feeling.. You always have amazing players in every draft and theres just as good a chance the top pick doenst become the top player as there is a chance that some 2nd/3rd/4th rounder + (ala Weber) develops more post draft than the top rated players did pre-draft. In my opinion the Oilers best player is Eberle and he wasnt a 1st overall. He plays better than their 1st picks on a nightly basis.

People love buying hype...not saying MacKinnon is hype but I am shocked people are already calling him a generational talent and the best player of the draft, the flames gm's would take him for Monahan in a trade etc...you guys put way too much stock in junior career. And this comes from a BIG MacKinnon/Drouin fan.

I loved watching them play and they are young stars but who knows who will be or is better suited to the NHL game.

Connor McDavid will be good. Good good. Perhaps not Gretzky good, but good.

No need for conjecture. Let's all collectively hope that he continues this! Why not!
