I think smaller festivals are kind of the happy medium between bar shows and and big festivals. I've been to two massive festivals in Sziget and Bonnaroo, and a number of small ones and I think I actually prefer the smaller ones. I always have a blast whenever I make it to town for Folk Fest, and out here I've really enjoyed the tiny ass Ska Fest we have every summer as well as Rifflandia, which is multi-venue but still fairly small.
Probably also doesn't help that I'm 5'8", so main stage shows with big crowds tend to be a bit of a bust for me.

I tend to go see bands at smaller venues that are cheap enough I can book out after the first set if I'm not feeling it so much, most of the clubs here run the music first then boot everyone out by 11 or 12 then let the kids in for the DJ set.

Only the anjunabeats stage is worth it to me, so I'll probably only go on Saturday.

What the hell is the Max Bell Centre festival grounds? Is that their way of saying they're turning the complex into an indoor festival area, or are they going to set up outside somewhere?

Looks like mostly the same old Big Room house garbage. How are people not bored of listening to essentially the same songs as they were listening to in 2012.... It's all Big Room or Dubstep, two genres that have totally went past their expiration date imo.... Pretty sure if you labelled youtube videos from the first Chasing Summer as 2015, you wouldn't be able to tell it apart.
The Anjuanabeats stage at least has some Trance.
Still. Hard Pass.

Why move it from Fort Calgary? That's a great venue.
Going to an EDM festival held in a parking lot during the summer sounds like a special kind of hell.

Well, X-Fest was cancelled last year due to the rain that turns Fort Calgary into a mud pit. I'd guess it has to do with risk management and being able to go forward with the concert regardless of the weather.

I wonder if Xfest will be a go this year. Haven't even heard a peep yet, and I'd imagine last years debacle combined with the economy may make them just skip this summer.

Oh, looks like they tweeted "Hi, that's all.......for now" on April 3, so probably a go. I would imagine the line up will be pretty underwhelming if other Canadian summer festivals are any indication.
It seems there's only two options with Canada's economy for festival organizers this year 1. Bring in a budget line-up 2. Cancel

Yeah Mud is a huge issue with these festivals (Although I had a blast at the first Badlands debacle).
Parking lot makes sense.

Grabbed a ticket to Tall Tree. Really I was probably going regardless of the lineup. This will be my first time going but I've only heard good things about it and it's pretty well one of the most serene spots for a festival.

I wouldn't really call the Anjuna stage trance, other than Bayer and K&A. But it's still better than what they normally bring, so I have to support the non-existent trance scene here lol.
But other than that the line-up is crap again. I was going to pass when half the line-up was leaked. I go to festivals/shows outside Alberta anyways, because the scene here only likes listening to the same stuff over and over again.

I wouldn't say the Chasing Summer lineup is that crap. These are some fairly big names (although not as big as last year). The type of music might not be your thing, but I would say it's a pretty solid lineup considering our economy.

Yeah the headliners are big names. It's just getting stale is all.
I guess it's great for anyone that is 21 and under who hasn't had a chance to get sick of it yet!
It'd be great if they threw in some Flume or Kygo into the mix just to create some variety.

I get it, it's geared towards attracting as much people and casuals as it can.
I'm just more critical, because I've been ruined by what to expect by going to bigger festivals, which isn't fair to compare to CS.

Another Vancouver Island festival that people out here seem to really like. I've only heard of a couple of groups on the bill.

All Tomorrow's Parties 2.0 Curated by Drive Like Jehu will no longer be going ahead. Full refunds will be issued to all customers.
After working through all options, including moving the event from Prestatyn to Manchester, we have had to accept defeat due to its lack of financial viability. We would like to apologise to everyone involved, especially to our customers who were planning to attend the event.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the curators and artists for their involvement, and we are so sorry that we will not be able to stage this event.

It’s a uniquely cruel hoax to appeal to Drive Like Jehu’s ego and ask us to create a program based on personally inviting the bands and musicians that have inspired us and changed the way we hear music and then subject them and their supporters to this. We really wanted this show to happen more than anything. It had all the makings of a legendary weekend. We were so committed to seeing this through that we remained hopeful ( blind in retrospect) amongst the ritualistic turmoil and crisis and trusted their solutions that would ensure that the show would definitely go on and the attendees would be treated fairly and the bands would be respected and celebrated.
