What are the green lines that are being put beside roads? And the blue ones too?
That is zoning. It has changed since beta 1, but that is what it looked like then.
Green is zoning areas for residential. Blue is for commercial. Yellow is for industrial.
When you zone a road, if that type of building is in demand workers will come build it and then the appropriate tenants will move in (people, businesses, or industries).

@oceanquigley If something happens to a nuclear power plant in SC, is there a chance areas around/downwind will be contaminated?

@bafendo Oh, yes - we've had some pretty dramatic meltdowns in test cities. Sims don't like living in a radioactive wasteland.

Do you only draw lines of zoning? No polygons?
Everyone seems to be drawing a single line along a road, why not fill an areas between 2 roads? (seems like a lot of wasted zoning space in the videos)

I thought that at first too, but the zone goes back from that line a ways....just doesn't show it. I guess how far back depends on the type of road used.

At the time of the beta you only draw a single line. I don't know if that has changed or not, Nehkara might know.
It's not wasting the zoning space, the buildings grown past that one block of depth as Muffins describes.
I am assuming it is done this way because there is no low, medium or high density zoning and that represents this now, but it is tough to tell how much space you need for high density buildings. That's where the guides come in when building roads. If you build a high density road, the road guides will recommend a bigger space so if you box the road, there will be enough room for your building to grow to high density.

No way, I'm building 70 nuclear power plants at the edge of town up wind from another town, then I'm gonna set up up like a big garden of mushrooms of death.

I hate quote myself but I wanted to add something about this.
You will notice if you look really closely, the lower density roads (lighter in colour) have a shallower zone than the higher density roads (darker in colour) do.

Wow, ignored this for the most part but decided to take a peek and am unbelievably excited for this. If my sister and I are looking to split the game, any chance of loading on multiple computers? Or is this the usual 'disk must be inside' game?
