Always pretty tough to trade into the top 10 but with the extra 1st and extra 2nd the team can probably move up, just don't know if there's enough ammo to get a top 10. Draft pick calculator says two picks in the low to mid 20s and our early 2nd are worth about pick #9 overall though fwiw.

Flames definitely need a high end forward prospect over quantity right now and so if they can package those three picks to jump up and get a potential 1C like Ryabkin, Desnoyers or Frondell that would be fantastic.
We can't undervalue the experience of making the playoffs through lots of hard work. That levels up the whole team versus getting one more good player.

In order for roster players to be subtracted I think the Flames will need to fall out of the race. That, or it ends up being a hockey trade.

But hockey trades are chemistry experiments, and that's risky when the current team seems to be bubbling along nicely.

As of right now we would be giving up pick 18, and getting picks 20 and 25..

People should really be cheering for wins at this point. We are not drafting top 10 this year.

They can't and most certainly won't trade Rasmus if they're still in the playoff fight by tdl.

Next season is a different story.

Flames need a high-end forward prospect that is a center, and this draft has 3 in the top 5 with Misa, Hagens and Frondell.

The 26 draft is McKenna and Iginla both wingers. Now I don't think anyone will cry if we get McKenna, but we need centers in the organization.

Based on what Conroy has said recently, I think a trade this season is extremely unlikely unless the player asks to move for some reason. If contract talks don't go well, then it's either an off-season move when more teams are interested, or next year's trade deadline.

I am really leaning towards the idea that the Flames do a series on minor sells at the deadline to add depth to playoff teams.

Hanley, Bean, Roonie could all be flipped for pocket change 5-7th picks to create a little bit of space for prospects.

I was thinking that Sharangovich could be a trade piece, but his value must be too low?

Otherwise there is a good chance the Flames move on from Pospisil who holds a lot of value, but whose future feels uncertain.

If Andersson gets traded a top 6 center under the age of 26 HAS to be in the return.

I am expecting them to stay status quo at the deadline unless they are completely out of the playoff race.

I'd love it if they moved some depth guys like Barrie that don't factor into the current roster or future for late picks, if any teams want them. I don't think anyone will, but that would be swell if it happened.

Flames do tidy work in the late rounds of the drafts.

We would have to attach a pick with Rooney to even make him attractive for anyone to take.

I guess the other question is do the Flames take on some bad contracts for draft capital?

I just don’t think any of the depth guys they have will even get late picks. Mantha was the best bet.

Yeah, this VAN situation might require a 3rd party to make the money work.

Maybe one of the parties has an expiring contract that we can take to facilitate the larger deal. Every GM in the league knows GMCC has space and wants to use it. I hope this happens.

Maybe we could even get a 4th line C that knows how to win a faceoff.

If you are ok with it being 2nd round pick or lower.

Reality is that type of trade isn't as valuable anymore.

Looks like the Flames missed that but low on Kakko after 10 games

I think you are right, probably less than 1% chance my dream comes true.

A playoff run, then draft, then free agent frenzy (not signing FAs but helping teams get rid of cap so that they can make bad FA decisions) will make for a great run into next season. Good time to be a Flames fan IMO. Lots happening.

GMs will do stupid things with 26 and 27 picks. They always do, knowing they might not be around that long. Haha, you can take that to the bank.

This summer has me excited but also scared. The Flames have the second most cap space, plus another $9 million opening up just from Kuzmenko and Mantha.

If the Flames get a playoff spot, I can't see these owners resisting the urge to throw down some money on UFAs.

I still think Conroy will stick to fair value contracts for age appropriate players

I could see them targeting Jack Roslovic.

While its still possible for Calgary to fall within the bottom 10, they are very unlikely to fall anywhere close to nabbing one of those guys.
