We have enough of the 200ft variety, we need some elite offensive skill.

Wills was just talking about him as a target on the Flames round table

Domi or Laine?
I'd be all over trying to get Laine. And then shop Tkachuk.

Laine before Domi, who IMO is overrated a lot of the time. Plus, I think he’s peaked. Laine is a guy who hasn’t reached potential for various reasons, and Sutter can probably get more out of him.

My understanding was that Lehkonen has played the majority of time on right wing, and excelled defensively (which is usually the knock against using someone off wing). He is also not an offensive black hole, as suggested. He produces at a high third line level.
That and the fact that he would cost our extra 2nd from Florida, which is basically a third, and a player that has not worked out in Calgary which is pitlick.
It's almost zero risk for a clear upgrade. It would also allow you to take a chance on Matthew Phillips for the fourth line, which is a black hole currently.

I've always been in favor of going after laine, but usually the crowd around here is totally against it. I think he'd look great in Red.

He talked about Laine.
I disagree with your scenario though. Tkachuk>>>Laine

Flames will have to figure out what to do at center in the offseason. Especially if both Backs and Monahan keep trending into the abyss. What was once a position of strength is quickly becoming a glaring position of weakness with great alarm.
And to top it off, the current most pressing need is to re-sign two left wingers. Ugh. Why is it so hard to balance roster composition

Columbus is sitting pretty good right now they need to get quality nhlers with good term on their deals for Laine imo. Chicago and their own pick and Chicago is top 2 protected. They could be adding a ton in this draft.
If Laine wants to stay they should keep him

It's being said that Klingberg has asked for a trade from Dallas. Pending UFA with 4.25 million this year. If Dallas is still on the outside of the playoff picture, would it be of interest to try and grab two rentals from them in Klingberg and Pavelski? Both will be UFA at the end of the year so likely pure rentals, but Pavelski leads the Stars and is playing 1st line RW and getting an increase in offense from our blueline in Klingberg could be a huge boost.

I'd love Klingberg because he could bring serious production from the back end and help the PP.
Pavelski would be a nice consolation for the Hertl dream.

Our team direction should is completely up to what Gaudreau and Tkachuk do. If the worst case scenario happens I hope we are watching a proper rebuild.
Honestly could you even imagine what this team looks like without Gaudreau?

Find a way to land Laine and build with that hope a center in the system works out and quick.

We got Ruzicka, Gawdin and Zary at C in the depth charts who appear closer to the NHL than not. And none of them scream top 6 C or even middle 6 C just yet.
We don't know what Nikolaev, Kerins or Beck will be yet if anything.
C depth is woefully shallow if the Flames have to salvage the current window of competing in the next two years while trying to convince Johnny and Chucky to stay.
Maybe I'm being alarmist but I can't see anyone being happy with the developments around Backlund and Monahan.

I can't say I've watched Zary, but his AHL numbers are really underwhelming this year. Hopefully he does the little things better than anyone, because offensively, I don't think he is anywhere near NHL ready.

If you were ever going to deal away a couple of Tkachuk/Johnny/Lindholm, it might as well be before the next two drafts for as many 1sts as you can accumulate.
If this season is a flop again and you can't keep the whole band together, you might as well flip the rest of them while franchise players will be draft eligible.
Losing one of Johnny/Matthew and just trying to carry on and fill their absence like they attempted to fill Gio's would be a much worse way to go.

I think calgary gets the most value for you chucky now, Johnny's window has expired to get any REAL value maybe some late round 1st/Non Blue chips. Chucky could go to a rebuilding team ready to move to compete stage loaded with depth.

Perhaps Tkachuk to Ottawa to be with his brother for their Wright lottery ticket and a top prospect.

If they were a competently run organization they would.
That remains in question... and a second Tkachuk carries some hype.
