As a Canadian, healthcare is something I take for granted. I wish more Americans could do the same.

I can't believe that health care access is not a basic human right, at least in so-called first world countries.

Our healthcare system has helped me a lot over the last few years. In 2010 I had a severed tendon in my big toe. It was operated one day after I went in to have it looked at. Last summer my retina detached. It was operated on the following week. Nice having these things taken care of and covered with no worries about having to sell off the family home in order to pay for it.

So House Intelligence Committee Chair Nunes just got caught on live TV saying he "regrets informing the president" about the the FBI investigation and surveillance into President's transition team before the House Intelligence Committee itself. Calling it a "judgement call". Problem is "Incidental" collection of contact between US citizens and foreign agents are not common and any intelligence report between the Trump transition team and Russian agents would be classified. Instead of bringing whatever information he has to the attention of the intelligence community, Nunes addressed reporters and then headed straight to the White House to inform the target of an ongoing FBI investigation. Nunes just implicated himself of Obstruction of Justice under the US Criminal Code. Hopefully someone of integrity is still around to prosecute this.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said Thursday that he regrets informing President Trump of surveillance affecting the president’s transition team before he updated his panel.

“It’s a judgement call on my part,” he told reporters when asked why he spoke with Trump and the media before House Intelligence Committee Democrats.

“At the end of the day, sometimes you make the right decision, sometimes you don’t,” Nunes added, noting he could not show the panel information that was given to him by a source.

Nunes declined to disclose his source’s identity when asked if it was the White House.
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN Thursday that Nunes had apologized "in a generic way" for his actions.

Nunes said Wednesday that the U.S. intelligence community incidentally collected information on members of Trump’s transition team, ultimately putting it into various intelligence reports.

After a dramatic 24 hours of tense negotiations and hushed meetings with the conservative House Freedom Caucus and others that failed to produce a closing deal, GOP leadership and the White House finally acknowledged mid-afternoon that the House would no longer vote Thursday on the GOP health care bill. They simply didn't have the votes.

And while White House sources were predicting a Friday vote, GOP aides on Capitol Hill were less optimistic. The suggestion of a Friday vote would be going "too far out," one senior aide said, while another Republican source said the White House appeared to be pushing a Friday vote to force everyone's hand.

Ryan huddled Wednesday night in his office with his top deputies and GOP moderates. But after several hours, no members came to talk to the reporters waiting outside the meetings. Most members used back exits to leave and the big sticking points remained unresolved.

A member who was in the late-night Ryan meeting said tensions were running high.
"A lot of people don't realize what the implications of that are," the member said of stripping out Essential Health Benefits. "So we're gonna railroad this thing through and there's going to be even more people pissed off -- our constituents, stakeholders."
Many GOP members are frustrated with how leadership has handled the negotiations in the past 24 hours.

"I think the chances for getting a bill done this week gets smaller -- doesn't go to zero, no such thing as never or impossible -- but I think the chances of passing this bill get a ... lot lower if we don't do it this week," one member said.
