I wanted Backlund before we got Huberdeau. But now, he seems like the most logicial choice. He's been the face of the franchise immediately after signing that contract extension, even after the trade he was excited and proud to wear the Flames jersey. He got jerseys for his beer league buddies like the day after the trade, repped the jersey during his ball hockey tournament. Did the Vegas media tour, and even rode a horse during the stamps game. Hes embraced the team, and the city on social media. Hes worn an A in Florida for a few years now as well, the leadership qualities are there.

I feel if we are thinking the big announcement is about a trade we are going to be very disappointed. Although Tarasenko would look pretty good on the top line. Just think before last year the blues were practically trying to give him away.

We've already been told by Scorp that the new Alternates are being announced tomorrow. I doubt we'll receive news of a trade.

I don't get how we can fit Tarasenko or what we could give the blues to entice them?
Kylington on IR is $2.5M back, then what, trade Hanafin's $4.9M x 2 seasons to St. Louis for 1 year of Tarasenko? Maybe because of that offset they will take another smaller salary from us as well for a pick? It would make sense we deal from our defense core since that's our depth position.

Would make sense if we got to see the new leadership group, blasty, and a Treliving extension.

I kinda hope it's Kadri who gets the C. But I'd also be down with Backlund.

Biznasty bullied us into a swanky new locker room upgrade?
New arena deal on the table?
Leadership would be a bit boring. Bit of a who cares but sure.

Maybe I'm weird but I kinda like the captain to be a centre. Can't explain it. But Huberdeau would also be a very worthy choice.

I have a feeling it's Kadri or Huberdeau. It's really just a decal on the jersey the real captain is the guy behind the bench.

Probably set up for a captain thing.
Maybe also an announcement as mentioned of the next retiring of jersey numbers and/or some honor for Ken King?
Sure, toss in alternate jerseys too.
And naming of helmet sponsor.
It's all set up for TV lights and cameras, but one chair behind the table only.
Treliving hasn't had a major announcement for a whole 3 days with the Sutter extension, and now, full of Boston Pizza turkey, he's ready to fire announcements out of both barrels.

Since moving to Calgary, the Flames have only had a centre as a captain for 5 seasons -- 4 with Nieuwendyk and 1 with Conroy. Also, Risebrough was co-captain with Lanny and Peplinski for 4 seasons.
