I could see them getting Gio in then selling him on the franchise and market then get him to extend cheap as their window is wide open. They are first in the league right now. There is interest if you believe the near expansion trade rumors to be true.
Zibenijad, Kreider, Panarin are all win now guys.
I don’t count out Burke and the surging Penguins as an option either. Leafs as well to bring him home and reunite him with Brodie

The Leafs could use him for sure, and he'd probably sign year to year after that with them.
The Rangers probably need to be sure of the goaltending, which has improved but isn't exactly name brand yet.

Felt like they got him to mentor some younger players but honestly who knows.
As for Gio back with the Flames, I can't see it. How do you bring back the former captain, and ask him to take a smaller role in a room that is no longer his on a team that has carved their own path with players in the room that have found their own voice?
Not to mention the ice time changes that would occur.
Just feels like it would cause issues, albeit unintentionally.

I agree that the Flames should just move on. Where would he fit if they got him back? I get that you want depth, but I think it's different if he goes to the Rangers to be 5th defenceman who may need to move up than if he comes to a team he was top 4 with last year.
I don't know as much about mentoring the young guys as Seattle doesn't have a whole lot of that. But more from the Building the team in the Community and them establishing all those relationships. He's probably been pretty involved in a lot of ice off stuff, so I could see why Seattle might not be as quick to trade their first captain. In a way it's odd that they wouldn't have picked a guy that they had longer plans for to be Captain and maybe had Gio be an alternate to help out at the beginning.

They might be looking at Gio as a stop gap captain until Matty Beniers steps in ? Hard to say.. personally speaking, if we were going for any defence depth, I'd rather see a Ben Chiarot which I've read could go for a late 1st.

You want to trade a first for Ben Chiarot?
I’m confused as to why we want to even add to our LD depth in the first place

Not a lot of community appearances by players happening because of the pandemic. At least I hope not, for the team's sake.
I don't think it's that big a deal. Even in normal times, another player would just step into the role. Seattle's a reasonably mature hockey market, they don't have to sell the game per se.

Isn't it funny how at the Xdraft we were all "how will he be replaced" and now it's "where would we even put him". That's all about Oliver.

I'm not saying D should be our first priority, that should be top 6 depth- on C and RW. But instead of Gio, that's who I would target.

If the Flames do go shopping I hope they do it early so any chemistry issues can be ironed out before the playoffs. They're playing so well as a team, it scares me at this point to possibly disrupt things which is why I've been fine with the idea that they get Toffoli. Knows Sutter, how he wants to play, would be a seamless fit in that regard I think. On D, maybe someone to take Zadorov's spot on occasion if Valimaki is moved or unavailable. Unsure if Chiarot is that guy, seems like overkill for a depth defenseman but that would be a good problem to have. If Chiarot is likely to get a 1st, and Toffoli could get the Habs a high pick or prospect maybe thats a package deal worth looking at. I made a trade proposal idea for the both of them a few weeks back, still unsure if it would be too much to pay or even close to getting it done lol

I'm also a fan of getting Toffoli. I never thought about a package about the two actually but food for thought for sure. Would love that right shot RW who has some skills and knows Sutter's style. His contract isn't horrible either.

Why? Definition of a grass is greener post. This team needs mobile Dmen and Gio is a far better puck mover than Chariot.
Flames should only be spending prime assets for help up front anyway.

Speaking of Gio, did anyone see his hilarious reaction to Chucky's GWG when the Flames were celebrating by the bench?? Andersson was basically staring right into his soul cheering. Was absolutely dying.

Chariot is bigger, also mobile, plays with an edge, and a defensive specialist. Reminds me a bit of Tanev. Also, nothing against Gio, I just think that ship is best left sailed at this point. But agreed, up front is where I'd like to see any prime assets spent- I just love the idea of a deep defence

I agree with the first part of your post. Why try to fix something that isn’t broken. We are dominating teams right now.
Don’t touch anything is my recommendation. Try to give young guys some experience so you have a bit of depth for playoffs. Maybe make a splash at the trade deadline if we continue along the same path.

on Insider trading, Dreger says the Coyotes are looking for an Eichel like return (Tuch, Krebs, conditional 1st, conditional 2nd) for Chychurn

He's good but their heads are in the clouds if they expect that kind of return imo

They won't get that package, but they'll surely get a big haul. It's not that often that a #1 D becomes available.

If he was RHD they'd get more. Why are there no good RHD available?!?!?! Either way, this team needs help on RW and down the middle.
