Yeah that was me.

I was going to say that Stauffer and Spector and all the rest are coworkers to Mavi and their livelihood is based upon their ability to toe the company line and basically be “yes men.”

Therefore bestest player eva!!11!!

Here’s the latest from Spector:
===
So, it’s a complicated space, that runway behind the Edmonton Oilers bench, where one gets an excruciatingly good view of the NHL’s 31st-best goaltending department, with an .886 save percentage at five-on-five.

There, No. 97 looks over his shoulder when he feels like he has languished on the bench for too long. No words, just a look from the greatest player on earth, two piercing eyes that inform of his readiness to be called upon.
===
You know Spector is angling for a signed jersey or something. Praise for Mavi while getting jabs in at the goalies?

The article also states that they went out and got a checking centre but knobby house elf insists on playing Mavi against the other teams’ top line. Except it’s “the greatest player on earth” with his “two piercing eyes” that make line changes.

Here’s another one:
===

They’re proven winners, these Oilers. Not Cup winners, but a team that’s reeled off series after series over the past five years.

===

It’s going to be glorious when this house of cards collapses and I’m here for it.

Edmonton also got to the cup finals through a lot of smoke and mirrors, and in their first run was lucky to get to 7 after being down in the series. Look at what happened when they played a team that was actually good and played to their abilities, in 22-23.
And in their second run, only an extremely poor zone clearance by Byfield allowed them to get past LA.

I hate McDavid but he is crazy good. If he joined this Flames team we would instantly be a playoff team and have a chance to go on a run.

Yes, he hasn't won but look at his playoff stats. I despise the Oilers but he is the only thing keeping them anywhere near a playoff spot.

No one said he wasn’t a good player. But is he “the best player in the world”? I will listen to a fact based argument to support this proposition. But it’s not based on point production. Because Kucherov beats him in all production stats that matter. So does MacKinnon much of the time.

It’s certainly not two way play because now Barkov enters the chat.

And that’s not even counting what Makar does from a defence position.

I would take Barkov, Kucherov, Mackinnon, and probably Makar over McDavid..

Sure but imagine having him and being a 90 point team...yikes

It's scoring. I mean he leads the league in points...oops, nevermind, he's 2nd.
But like, he's been the best for the last few years...you can't judge him based on this point in time...sorry, Nikita who?

Who cares about the last few seasons, we ARE talking about today!

At least he's #1 in goals...what? 4th?
Who cares, he's a play maker, he's got the most assists...or like almost the most...

Guys, it's not about a single stat. Look at his 200 ft game. And yeah, don't tell me about +/-, everyone knows that doesn't tell the whole story. Besides, he's like less thant 50 behind Mackinnon, so it's not like it's even a big deal.

But, what we're really talking about is even strength goals and points...where he's...up there

THE POWER PLAY. That's what really matters these days. The guy is a goal scoring monster...Sure he's tied for 12th...but you know what...you can't spell 12 without #1 Baby.

So now that we've clearly proved none of that other stuff matters, clearly we are talking about Power Play points where he sits neatly at the top of the league.

See, pretty obvious. He's clearly the best player in the world.
I had an Oilers fan arguing with me that the powerplay is where truly elite players excel. I tried to argue that I didn't agree and that truly elite players show how elite they are when it's more difficult, like at 5 on 5. I'd prefer to have the best player at even strength on my team vs a Powerplay ace.

It’s this stuff that concerns me with them making the playoffs. I’ve never seen a team with so much luck go their way in the playoffs. What you mentioned about the LA series last year is a perfect example - 99 times out of a 100, that puck gets chipped out and the series is 3-0 LA and likely over. There are so many other examples of the ridiculous luck that team has had:

-In the 2024 playoffs, every team they faced up until Florida was decimated by injuries. Vancouver definitely should have beat them if not for injuries.
-they get their favourite matchup every year in the first round
-they are a powerplay specialist team and the first round usually has more powerplays than normal regular season games - this gives the oilers an advantage that can carry them to the 2nd round.
-they get phantom calls like the Coleman goal that got called back
-they have managed to avoid the team that would be their toughest matchup for four straight years - Colorado. I know Dallas is a good team but I do not trust them to beat the oilers anymore. It becomes a powerplay battle with those series and the oilers win those.

Would love for the oilers to just miss the playoffs entirely and end up giving away a really good draft pick. Peak pain for E=NG.

I’m concerned the lucky break that they will have this year is that, despite being a really bad team, they will get to have the easiest path to the conference finals because they will likely play other pacific division teams.

I agree, just look at it historically...the Oilers are powerplay dynamos, so were the 2010 Canucks, when the powerplay cools off, what do you have left?
