Well 90% of the stuff in here is made up by us, these aren't rumours, this has turned in to "2024/2025 Trade wishes" thread

Yeah usually a few more actual rumors about names being discussed leaking out at the draft, continues to be really quiet. maybe teams have just really cracked down on the media moles out there ha

It says speculation too. When a rumor becomes serious it usually gets its own thread.

Typically, I agree. There's just not an obvious quality ledge this year like there have been in other years, so if they're moving up a few picks, it shouldn't cost that second first rounder to do it.

We'll see though. Maybe the Flames see something in a player others don't that's worth the 28th pick. (But people on here have been arguing to trade up for Iginla, Lindstrom, Parekh, Buium and now Demidov).

Maybe. I don’t know though after the move from 14th to 11th cost a 2nd round pick for San Jose. We’re talking about a bigger jump from 9th to 4th and at a much higher draft position.

The price might be too much but that might be the price.

Most prospect services are saying that there's a ledge of comparable players running from 2 to around 12 or 13. Trading from 14 to 11 got San Jose into the upper ledge.

That should be more expensive than moving up five picks in the top 10.

Edit: Although maybe the "consensus" ledge is at 15 according to this (which kind of kills my logic): https://flamesnation.ca/news/2024-nh...-draft-ranking

All comes down to the team. Sharks might have 11 players way above the rest and are confident they’ll get someone good

Wolf and Vladar are going to get shelled regardless; this team is going to suck. Weegar and Andersson aren't even great defensive defensemen, they are both prone to bad turnovers and most of their value comes from their offense.

I'm not saying trade them both for just anything, I'm saying if you get great offers for them, you do it and shore up the defense by overpaying veteran UFA defensemen on short term deals. You can overpay for guys like Suter and Cole on one year deals and promise to flip them to contenders at the deadline.

Per Steinberg:
Looking ahead to Monday and free agency, GM Craig Conroy says targeting defence and goaltending depth will be priorities.

Reiterates to us term is something they’ll be careful on.

Calgary has a little more than $23 million in cap space to work with. #Flames

Makes sense. There's going to be value at those two positions. Still think Conny gets some trades done to tinker with the FW grouping.

I fully expect to see Dumba and Copely as "higher targets" for the Flames, but the market will dictate how much Craig will spend.

To BUF:
- Andersson
- Mangiapane (50% retained)

To CGY:
- Samuelsson
- 14 OA

9: Catton
14: Yakemchuk
28: Beaudoin
41: Hutson
62: Nabokov

Then flames become part of a 3 way trade to be a salary retainer. Easy enough

Mangiapane with no retention to Caps for a 2025 2nd round pick. Sooooo much cap space....

This has been an unprecedented last nine months for Flames transactions, wow. And I'll be honest, it's exciting.

I truly want the youth to have a shot. And I don't want to finish outside top 10. But I really want them to weaponize this $28m in cap space to acquire more assets.

Save the weaponizing for next summer when teams want to steal Draisaitl. Twice as satisfying weaponizing the cap space to help the flames and hurt the oilers.
