Who's doing your kitchen cabinets? Why not have them build the bathroom vanities as well?

I'm just going to throw out a huge shout-out to Ikea's kitchen cabinets. Installed ours in 2016 and they're pure perfection still. I love them. Great hardware, look awesome, easy to design the layout myself, and the price was insanely good.

Only thing that sucks is the toe kicks, but I hired a carpenter to make nicer ones than the ones that come with Ikea's.

No one. No scope for any of that stuff. When I get the occupancy certificate it'll be because the plumbing all works and I have a hot plate in the kitchen. The rest I'll do in the ensuing few months. I anticipate the actual answer to your question is "Ikea will do my kitchen cabinets". EDIT: just saw Sliver's reply and yep, exactly.

I am however having the bathroom pretty much finished (tile work, etc) because I want that to work perfectly on day 1 without having to worry about any of it, so the figuring out the vanity situation is actually kinda key to ensure I get it all roughed in properly.

Could you live with a couple of pedestal sinks until you decide what to do later?

Or a fricken laundry tub. They're so cheap and you can install it yourself in about 10 minutes.

Why not just figure it out now? He doesn't even have a roof yet.

No, because a) the plumbing needs to be properly roughed in (including the proper valves and spacing etc) for what I am ultimately putting there, and b) the only thing I refuse to compromise on in terms of getting finished is the bathroom. I only have one bathroom in this place and I want it finished professionally top to bottom so that everything is done properly and will work as intended. I can live in a place that's unfinished for a little while, as long as the bathroom is in good shape. It's the one thing I don't want to have to worry about at all.

Ah I see. The rough ins aren't actually an issue. But if you want it finished properly, then custom is really the only way to go. It's actually not that much more expensive, it might even be the same price or less than buying off the shelf, and I guarantee you the quality will be better. The stuff you're looking at from HD/Wayfair isn't that great.

It's a little more effort on your part, but you could get the cabinets done by somewhere like Cabinets Express, and go to a countertops place, have them make the counter and glue in the sinks, drill the holes etc and then put them together yourself. I built my own cabinet, but had the top done this way. You just need to use a bead of adhesive caulking and drop the counter on.

Yup, you'd still get all the benefits of custom that way and save a bit of money.

My builder recommended this maker for pre-made.

I'm still trying to decide if I could get away with an 84" one... the wall is 11' long but also has to have room for the toilet next to the vanity.

What's code for side clearance for toilets in BC?

Seven foot vanity is a good size. You could even put a cabinet in the middle.

You could then put a wing wall between the toilet and vanity. This allows you a little bit of privacy when pooping and also a place to securely mount a TP holder.

Price looks pretty reasonable for those, looks like an easy way to go.

Yep. It's actually kinda crazy how competitive the cost custom cabinets can be (let alone some of the other benefits it comes with). In hindsight, I'll never attempt to refresh a cabinet or get off the shelf before getting quotes on a custom built one.

Those are pretty sweet. If it's the only bathroom in the whole house, then IMO, instead of cutting corners, I'd personally see if I can cut elsewhere and actually splurge on the bathroom instead.

After adding mirrors and taps to that, it's probably at around $3K total?

One bathroom, I personally wouldn't cut corners on that vanity. Same for the toilet. I'd make sure it looks great and doesn't fail to perform.

Does anyone have any experience with textured steel siding (like https://armourside.com/?) It seems like a great product but I would be worried about rust and overall longevity versus something like Hardie.

Spoiler!
