That’s less years and AAV than I expected for Fairbanks, especially going to the Marlins.
I would have loved that deal for the Jays. Have to think the dollars are being geared towards bats now.

I would have loved a big name closer if the money didn't limit them elsewhere, but at the same time I'm fine with their bullpen going into the season. Can add later if it's an issue but they have a lot of solid arms to work with. They've dropped arms like Bruihl, Sandlin, and Burr this off season. They must be fairly comfy with what they have as well.

With Fairbanks condition you knew he would stay somewhere warm…

As stated many times, this is the ideal for me. Add an arm mid-season.

Fairbanks, 32, also has Raynaud’s syndrome, a condition that can cause numbness and loss of feeling in his hands in extreme temperatures. While teams are familiar with the condition, it remains part of the evaluation, particularly for clubs in colder climates or those planning deep runs in the playoffs.

Would that have much relevance to Toronto? Spring training in Florida, any temp/condition that isn't perfect is played in the fully enclosed Dome. I mean half the teams in the US that play in open stadiums have worse conditions than Toronto in the early/late season. And Toronto doesn't even really have that many "extreme" condition weather during the actual MLB season.

Even if it wasn’t the predominant factor in his decision, I’m sure people think of Toronto as a cold destination despite it being pretty hot for 75% of the baseball season.
I’d guess that staying close to where he currently lives played a bigger factor in his decision.

He probably took the most money he was offered by at least a couple million.
I mean, if he was offered the same money from Toronto and decided to sign with the Marlins, his doctor should order up a brain scan for him.

Could’ve been the same money but then the lack of Florida taxes puts him ahead of many other places including Toronto and the CRA.
1 year deal so assuming he stays healthy he knows he is moving somewhere else in July anyways.
